In line with Ain Shams University’s commitment to supporting and promoting the scientific participation of faculty staff, and encouraging distinguished researchers to apply for prestigious research awards, and under the patronage of Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, the University announces the opening of nominations for the 2026 Kuwait Prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
The prize is one of the international awards administered by the World Health Organization and is granted in recognition of scientists and researchers who have made outstanding contributions to supporting and advancing public health, particularly in the fields of prevention, control, and scientific research.
Prize Objective:
The prize aims to honor individuals who have made distinguished contributions in the fields of prevention, control, or scientific research in one or more of the following diseases:
Cancer
Cardiovascular Diseases
Diabetes
Prize Components:
The prize consists of:
A certificate of recognition
A bronze medal
A cash award of USD 10,000
The prize will be presented during the session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean.
Nomination Criteria:
The prize may be awarded to one or more individuals (up to a maximum of three nominees annually) according to the following criteria:
Contribution to the development and implementation of successful national policies and strategies in the targeted disease areas.
Providing documented evidence of translating research findings into practical applications or effective health policies.
Contribution to supporting prevention, control, or scientific research efforts in the fields of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, or diabetes.
General Conditions:
Current or former employees of the World Health Organization Secretariat are not eligible for nomination.
Posthumous nominations are not accepted unless the nominee passed away after nomination.
Previous award recipients may not be renominated unless they have presented new and distinguished contributions.

Justification for nomination.

Deadlines:
Deadline for receiving nominations from faculties: June 25, 2026.
