As part of the state’s direction toward deepening partnerships between academic institutions and the industrial sector, and strengthening the role of applied scientific research in supporting the national economy and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian industry, under the patronage of Prof. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, the Faculty to Factory Program initiative (Academia & Industry) has been launched by the Higher Education and Scientific Research Sector as one of the strategic initiatives aimed at building an effective model for integrating academic knowledge with industrial needs.
The program represents an innovative platform based on real industrial challenges, enabling researchers and academics to work within Egyptian factories on actual production-related problems, with the aim of developing direct, applicable solutions that can be implemented within the workplace environment. This contributes to improving operational efficiency, enhancing product quality, and strengthening the competitiveness of national industry, moving beyond the traditional theoretical nature of research or non-applied consultancy roles.
The program targets various academic disciplines and is not limited to engineering or scientific sectors only, reflecting a comprehensive approach toward utilizing scientific and intellectual expertise in serving industrial development in its broader concept.
The program offers researchers the opportunity to work full-time inside factories for a period ranging from four to six months, according to a phased implementation plan that begins with integration into the industrial work environment, followed by analyzing existing challenges, and then designing and developing practical solutions or applicable prototypes ready for implementation.
Applicants are required to have a principal investigator who is a faculty member at a governmental university, research center, or governmental research institute, holding a PhD degree in a relevant specialization, with full-time commitment to work inside the factory throughout the project duration. Preference is given to researchers at an early stage of their careers, in support of preparing research cadres capable of combining academic depth with practical industrial experience.
The host factory must also be an established Egyptian industrial entity operating within the Arab Republic of Egypt, capable of hosting the researcher and providing access to production processes, data, facilities, and technical teams necessary to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of the project.
Regarding financial support, the program provides a monthly stipend for the principal investigator throughout the implementation period, with the possibility of supporting a postgraduate student to participate within the research team after obtaining the required approvals. This contributes to preparing a new generation of researchers qualified to lead applied innovation pathways and strengthen the connection between scientific research and industrial needs.
The deadline for receiving research proposals is June 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM, in accordance with the detailed rules and conditions announced on the website of the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority: Click here
