The Department of Tourist Guidance at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, organized a scientific seminar titled “The Zafaran Palace and Its University Museum” in the college’s conference hall, as part of the department’s cultural season activities.
The seminar was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University; Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; and Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts. It was supervised by Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim Hassan, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Dina Sadeq, Head of the Department of Tourist Guidance.

During the seminar, Prof. Wala’ El-Din Badawi, Director of the Zafaran Palace Museum, delivered a lecture in which he explored the palace’s long history, highlighting its major historical milestones from its establishment up to its transformation into a university museum that houses documentary and artistic collections reflecting the university’s memory and its cultural and academic heritage.
He also discussed the palace’s unique architectural character, explaining how it brings together European influences and an Eastern spirit, in addition to its role as a key reference for students and researchers in the fields of heritage, arts, and archaeology.
The seminar saw remarkable attendance, with strong engagement from participants who interacted with the information, images, and recollections presented as if they were touring the palace themselves.
Prof. Badawi also addressed the educational and cultural dimensions of the university museum, emphasizing its importance in connecting students with the history of their institution and strengthening awareness of the university’s cultural identity. Time was allocated for discussion and questions from students and faculty members, fostering an interactive dialogue and encouraging greater interest in the university’s history and heritage.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the department expressed its gratitude and appreciation to the lecturer for the rich and detailed information he provided, confirming that such academic and cultural events enhance students’ practical experience, enrich their knowledge, and affirm the Faculty of Arts’ commitment to supporting academic and cultural activities that connect education with Egypt’s cultural and heritage landscape.
