As part of Ain Shams University’s strategy to foster excellence and highlight outstanding role models among its community, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, honored today both Engineering student Youssef Emad Mahmoud Abdel-Hamid Badawy, who secured the World Karate Championship title in the under-84 kg kumite category for the third consecutive year, and Ms. Fatma Mahmoud from the Faculty of Education, following her gold-medal victory at the 2025 Cairo World Karate Championship for seniors and athletes with physical disabilities.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; And Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs.
Also present were Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Prof. Safaa Shehata, Dean of the Faculty of Education, in addition to Mrs. Fatma’s husband, an Ain Shams University Faculty of Bu graduate and multiple world karate titleholder, along with their son.
During the meeting, Prof. Diaa extended his sincere congratulations to both champions, stressing that their international accomplishments exemplify the strength of Ain Shams University’s human capital, whose excellence goes beyond academics and research to include athletic, cultural, and creative achievements.

He added that the global success of the University’s students and staff reflects its vision of discovering and nurturing talent, and creating an environment conducive to innovation and distinction. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing full support to all gifted individuals who raise the name of Ain Shams University—and Egypt—on international platforms.
The President of the University expressed his pride in the achievements of Youssef Badawy and Fatma Mahmoud, who have proven that dedication and hard work pave a clear path to global success.
For their part, both honorees expressed their deep appreciation for the recognition, affirming that the support of Ain Shams University is a powerful motivation to continue striving for further international achievements, and that such recognition reflects the University’s genuine commitment to its people and its pride in their contributions.
This recognition reinforces Ain Shams University’s standing as a leading institution that produces world-class champions and presents the nation with outstanding figures capable of competing globally and elevating Egypt’s name across various fields.
Badawy, from the Faculty of Engineering, claimed his world title with a sweeping 6–0 victory over the Turkish champion in the final of the 2025 Karate World Cup, adding a new milestone to his international record and reaffirming Egypt’s leadership in the sport.
Meanwhile, Fatma Mahmoud, from the Faculty of Education, achieved a historic milestone as the first athlete from Egypt and the Arab world to win the gold medal in the Women’s Para-Karate World Championship, held in Cairo on 29 November 2025.
