The second annual conference of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes was launched at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Sherif Wadih, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Scientific Research and Advisor to the Minister of Health for Emergency and Urgent Care Affairs; and Prof. Tarek Maged, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University.
The conference was chaired by Prof. Salwa Siddek, Head of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit at the Faculty of Medicine, with the participation of a group of senior professors and experts from various Egyptian universities.
The conference featured a rich scientific program spanning two full days, including scientific sessions, specialized lectures, and interactive workshops. More than 40 professors from various specialties, including general internal medicine, cardiology, nephrology, dermatology, therapeutic nutrition, bariatric surgery, and endocrinology, reflecting the integrated nature of the conference. The sessions addressed the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases, the role of artificial intelligence in choosing a diet and monitoring blood sugar tests, and the integration of heart and metabolic health, focusing on the care of diabetic patients in special groups. They also addressed the treatment of obesity in the modern era, and nutrition as a key component of hormonal health and the prevention of cardiovascular complications in diabetic patients. Discussions also touched on modern methods in diabetes clinics for controlling the disease, allowing patients to conceive and give birth without complications for themselves or their fetuses.
The conference dedicated a special session to presenting rare clinical cases presented by young doctors and researchers under the title "Rising Stars from Ain Shams University," providing an opportunity for new generations to showcase their expertise and discuss them with experts.
The organizing professors emphasized that the goal of the conference is to exchange scientific expertise, promote scientific research, and raise the level of medical care for endocrinology and diabetes patients in line with the latest international standards.
During the conference, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, was honored in recognition of her efforts. At the conclusion of the conference, experts made several important recommendations directly affecting citizens' health. They emphasized the importance of using modern weight-loss medications under medical supervision, as they play a role in reducing heart, kidney, and bone risks.
They also emphasized the need to leverage the latest technologies in diabetes monitoring and nutritional control to facilitate patients' lives and improve their health.
The recommendations also included focusing on the health of women with diabetes before pregnancy to reduce the risk of congenital malformations in the fetus and complications for the mother. They also emphasized proper nutrition for children to avoid short stature, endocrine disorders, and delayed puberty.
The conference also called for strengthening healthcare for the elderly, especially those with diabetes and high blood pressure. They also emphasized the importance of conducting regular thyroid tests for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with a family history of the disease, with the goal of early detection and appropriate treatment.
In conclusion, the experts emphasized the need to raise awareness of the symptoms and types of diabetes, ensuring early diagnosis and initiation of treatment according to the latest international recommendations to avoid complications.
