The Presidential Health Advisor and the President of Ain Shams University Inaugurate the 28th International Conference on Obstetrics and Gynecology

The 28th International Conference of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, kicked off in the presence of Prof. Awad Tag El-Din, Presidential Advisor for Health Affairs, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Dr. Osama Abdel Hay, President of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals.

In his speech, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, expressed his delight at the launch of the conference, affirming that it has become a distinguished landmark on the map of scientific and medical conferences in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa.

He pointed out that convening the conference with the participation of leading professors and experts from various countries reflects Ain Shams University’s role as a pioneering platform for scientific and knowledge exchange, embodying its mission to advance science and serve the community.

The President further highlighted that this year’s conference focuses on issues directly impacting Egyptian society, such as the rising rates of cesarean deliveries and the problem of female genital mutilation, in addition to showcasing the latest technologies in laparoscopic and robotic surgeries and advanced treatments for gynecological cancers.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa also praised the accreditation of the conference by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), describing it as a valuable addition that opens wider horizons for Egyptian doctors to enhance their expertise and upgrade their skills locally and internationally.

He concluded by extending his gratitude and appreciation to the participants, international guests, the organizing committee, and all those who contributed to the success of this distinguished scientific event, expressing his hope that the conference achieves its goals in strengthening international cooperation, supporting women’s health in Egypt and the Arab world, and reinforcing Egypt’s pioneering role in scientific research and medicine across Africa.

The conference was held over two days, August 20–21, with the participation of Prof. Hala Suweed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Rania Salah, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Tarek Youssef, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Rehab Abdel Rahman, Director of the Maternity and Gynecology Hospital, and Prof. Amr El-Husseiny, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The event gathered many leading professors, experts, and physicians from Egypt and around the world, further solidifying its position as one of the most prominent scientific events in Egypt and the Middle East.

The participants emphasized that the conference, with a history spanning more than a quarter of a century, has become a leading platform for exchanging expertise and discussing the latest international research and technologies in obstetrics and gynecology. They highlighted that its convening with such strong scientific and research momentum underscores Ain Shams University’s central role in supporting scientific research and medical innovation.

This year’s conference is distinguished by its accreditation from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), awarding 144 CME credit hours, which enhances its academic value and enables participating doctors to benefit professionally and scientifically at both local and international levels.

Prof. Ashraf Nabhan, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Conference President, affirmed that hosting this major scientific event in Cairo reflects Ain Shams University’s leadership in supporting scientific research and advancing healthcare. He noted that the wide international participation this year opens new avenues for collaboration between research centers and global universities, contributing to strengthening Egypt’s standing on the international medical map. He stressed that the conference has become a forum uniting everyone around a single message: placing women’s health at the forefront of priorities, as women are the secret of life, the beating heart of the family, and the mind of society.

The conference is expected to serve as a rich platform for scientific dialogue and knowledge exchange, supporting national efforts to enhance the health of Egyptian and Arab women while reinforcing Egypt’s leadership role in scientific research and medical development at regional and international levels.

The sessions of the conference addressed issues directly affecting Egyptian society, including the marked increase in cesarean delivery rates with a review of successful international experiences in reducing unnecessary cesarean sections, as well as the issue of female genital mutilation as a health and social challenge requiring coordinated medical, educational, and legislative efforts to eliminate it. The conference also addressed low-cost fertility treatments that provide more families with opportunities for parenthood without significant financial burden.

Additionally, the conference focused on medical innovation, presenting the latest advancements in minimally invasive laparoscopic gynecological surgeries, the use of robotic technologies in gynecological operations, representing a qualitative leap ensuring greater precision, fewer complications, and faster recovery, as well as modern treatment protocols for gynecological cancers, highlighting promising clinical outcomes.

In line with its commitment to supporting training and practical skills, the conference was preceded by workshops launched on August 4 and continued until its opening. These workshops covered diverse topics in laparoscopic surgery, assisted reproduction technologies, and advanced diagnostic and treatment methods, aiming to refine the skills of young doctors and provide them with hands-on experience aligned with international standards.
