Under the Patronage of Ain Shams University Leadership… Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital Inaugurates a Series of Development Projects and Officially Launches Its Robotic Orthopedic Surgery Program

As part of Ain Shams University's vision to advance its healthcare system and enhance the quality of medical and therapeutic services, Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital inaugurated a series of medical, infrastructure, and development projects, while officially launching its Robotic Orthopedic Surgery Program. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board; and Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals. The inauguration was attended by Prof. Hesham Anwar, Director of Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital; Prof. Haitham Abdel Azim, Deputy Director of the Hospital; along with department heads and faculty members from Ain Shams University Hospitals.

The launch of the program reflects the University's commitment to keeping pace with the latest global medical advancements and adopting cutting-edge technologies that enhance the quality of healthcare, improve the precision of surgical procedures, and contribute to better clinical outcomes and faster patient recovery.

During the ceremony, the hospital officially announced the addition of a robotic orthopedic surgery system to its Robotic Surgery Unit, introducing a new specialty within its robotic surgery services. The system supports joint replacement procedures using state-of-the-art technology, providing exceptional accuracy, enhanced patient safety, and improved recovery outcomes.

The hospital received the robotic surgical system on July 5, followed by the completion of installation and technical preparations in the operating theatres on July 18, in accordance with approved engineering and technical standards, paving the way for clinical operation.

On July 19, the Orthopedic Surgery Department successfully performed its first robot-assisted joint replacement surgery, led by Prof. Haitham Abdel Azim, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, in the presence of Prof. Tarek Hassan, Head of the Orthopedic Surgery Department. This marked the official commencement of the program, which has since completed five successful robotic joint replacement procedures, demonstrating outstanding clinical outcomes, the expertise of the hospital's medical and technical teams, and the hospital's readiness to deliver advanced robotic surgical care.

The Robotic Orthopedic Surgery Program represents a new milestone in the hospital's robotic surgery journey, which began in 2021 with the launch of Egypt's first fully integrated robotic surgery program within a hospital. The addition of robotic orthopedic surgery further strengthens the hospital's leadership in advanced surgical care and marks a significant leap forward in joint replacement and orthopedic procedures.

This achievement reflects Ain Shams University's and its university hospitals' ongoing commitment to investing in advanced medical technologies and fostering innovation in healthcare delivery, reinforcing their position as leading medical, educational, and research institutions capable of providing comprehensive healthcare services in line with the highest international standards.
