The Egyptian TV program Misr Tastatie (Egypt Can), aired on DMC, hosted a team from the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University following their outstanding international achievement of winning four awards in one of the world's leading earthquake engineering competitions organized by the U.S.-based Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI).

The students explained that the team consists of 40 undergraduate students from different academic years, representing both Civil Engineering and Architecture. They emphasized that the team's success is built on interdisciplinary collaboration, continuous training of new members, and passing on experience from previous competitions to ensure sustained excellence.

The competition requires participants to design and construct a building model that is tested on a seismic simulation platform under earthquake intensities ranging from magnitude 5 to 9. The evaluation includes two tests: one using a pre-announced ground motion and another using an undisclosed seismic motion revealed only during the competition. The primary objective is for the structure to withstand both tests without collapsing.

The team noted that the model developed by Ain Shams Engineering students exceeded expectations by successfully passing the seismic tests, while nearly half of the competing teams either failed to complete the evaluations or saw their structures collapse.

In addition to their other awards, the team also received the Best Architectural Design Award. They explained that preparations for the competition lasted several months, beginning in November, while planning for the next annual participation starts every October as part of an ongoing strategy to maintain Ain Shams University's distinguished standing in international engineering competitions.

The students were also featured on the ON TV program Ma'akum (With You), hosted by Mona El Shazly, where they shared the story behind their remarkable achievement.
