The activities of the specialized phases of the Children’s University Program at Ain Shams University have begun, with its seventh and eighth phases. The two-week program, from August 5 to 14, is hosted by the Faculty of Computers and Information. The program is being held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University; Prof. Gina El-Feki, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; Prof. Amany Kamel Osama, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Nagwa Badr, Dean of the Faculty; Prof. Shereen Rady, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Rana Refai, Executive Director of the Children’s University at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; and the coordination and supervision of Dr. Noha El-Rafei, Deputy Director of the Grants and Projects Department at the International Relations and Academic Cooperation Sector and Coordinator of the Children’s University at Ain Shams University; and Dr. Mona Abdel-Azim, Faculty Coordinator for the Program.
In her speech during the opening ceremony, Prof. Nagwa Badr, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, expressed her happiness with the children’s choice of a major in Computer and Information Sciences.
This is crucial in the modern digital age, as it helps them develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills from an early age.
They can also understand technology, which prepares them for the job market, where computer literacy and programming languages have become essential skills.
Dr. Noha El-Rafei welcomed the students and their parents, emphasizing the university’s commitment to supporting the Children’s University program in its seventh and eighth cycles. This reflects the university’s role in serving the community, preparing a new generation of scientists and innovators, and promoting and supporting scientific creativity from an early age. She noted the university’s ongoing support for the children to achieve the program’s goals and provide them with the best opportunities to support their intellectual and cognitive development.
Under the supervision of Dr. Mona Abdel-Azim and the coordination of logistics at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, the 100 children were divided into four groups, supervised by faculty staff and students, to provide each child with practical computer training on the curriculum.
It's worth noting that the Computer Science and Information major was made available based on student preferences and student selection, to keep pace with the language of the era and technological advancements, helping them develop their skills in their preferred fields.
The curriculum includes web application programming, Python programming principles, and various topics related to embedded systems and artificial intelligence.
To ensure the safety of the children, monitor program implementation, and facilitate any difficulties faced by the faculty coordinators, a team from the Faculty of Computer and Information Science and the Grants and Projects Department receives the children and stays with them throughout the day.
