Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, honored 1,193 faculty staff and teaching assistants who received the 33rd batch of the “Professor Mahmoud El-Metini” International Publication Reward. He also honored 27 researchers who received the Book or Book Chapter Award from the January 2024 batch.
This took place during the International Publication Session within the activities of the 13th Ain Shams University Scientific Conference, under the theme “Ain Shams: 75 Years of Excellence and Leadership… An Eye on the Past and a Sun Enlighten the Future.” The conference was held on May 14-15, 2025, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The event was attended by Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Amani Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research.
The President of the University also honored Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, Former University who praised his role and clear efforts in supporting and motivating researchers and scientists and advancing the university. He emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a stimulating research environment that fosters innovation and creativity and contributes to achieving sustainable development goals. This is achieved by empowering researchers at all academic levels and providing them with the necessary intellectual and material resources.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa emphasized that Ain Shams University has placed great emphasis on international publishing, as it is a key indicator of the quality of academic institutions. This is clearly reflected in the continuous annual increase in the number of research papers published internationally, with the expansion of participation to include the faculties of humanities, which have begun to win international publishing awards. This confirms the deep-rooted culture of sound academic publishing throughout the university. He pointed out the increase in the percentage of research that obtained the Q1 classification, and the increase in the value of international publication awards. Perhaps the numbers reflect this strongly, as the total value of international publication awards for the 33rd batch, the batch of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, amounted to approximately 6 million and 669 thousand Egyptian pounds, which were distributed to 979 published research papers, for a number of researchers, 1193 researchers.
The number of research papers submitted by the College of Science in this batch was 236, conducted by 248 researchers; 165 papers by 151 researchers by the College of Engineering; 142 papers by 121 researchers by the College of Education; 125 papers by 350 researchers by the College of Medicine; 100 papers by 87 researchers by the College of Pharmacy; 65 papers by 80 researchers by the College of Girls; 49 papers by 62 researchers by the College of Agriculture; 43 papers by 31 researchers by the College of Computers and Information; 31 papers by 42 researchers by the College of Dentistry; 6 papers by 7 researchers by the College of Nursing; 4 papers by one researcher by the College of Commerce; 3 papers by one researcher by the College of Environmental Studies; 2 papers by the College of Veterinary Medicine; 1 paper by the College of Specific Education by 3 researchers; and 1 paper by the College of Languages, Archaeology, and Arts, each conducted by one researcher. The data also indicated that the total approvals for international publication costs in Q1 journals amounted to $4,053, distributed among three research papers from the Faculty of Engineering, two research papers from the Faculty of Archaeology, and one research paper each from the Faculties of Dentistry and Medicine.
Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini extended his sincere congratulations to the university on the occasion of its 13th conference, which is considered the most important conference as it coincides with the Diamond Jubilee and the 75th anniversary of its establishment, reflecting a journey full of achievements. He expressed his happiness at belonging to this prestigious institution, appreciating the efforts of the current university president, his rapid steps, and his outstanding performance, as well as the university's vice presidents, who are making great efforts to support the development process and achieve further progress and excellence in the university's international rankings. He praised the increasing number of research papers and the growing scientific production in all fields, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
Finally, Prof. El-Meteini expressed his gratitude for this generous gesture of naming the 33rd batch of international publications after him, expressing his pride and honor in belonging to this distinguished institution.
In her speech, Prof. Amani Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, expressed her pride and honor in being among Ain Shams University's scholars, emphasizing that they represent the university's cornerstone and the source of its strength and success, thanks to their achievements that contribute to raising the university's standing and advancing the path of science and knowledge. Her Excellency also pointed out that publishing research in prestigious international journals not only reflects the excellence of researchers, but also elevates the name of the university and the country, enhances its leadership, and opens up broad avenues for international cooperation, funding, and policy influence, in addition to improving the university's global ranking.
She concluded with a clear call for a focus in the coming period on supporting innovation and patents, as they are a fundamental pillar for achieving excellence and progress.
She also extended her thanks and appreciation to the international publishing team, led by Prof. Al-Gohary Al-Saeed Attia, and all the team's professors and administrators, in appreciation of their great efforts in identifying and sorting scientific research.
Her Excellency also expressed her happiness that the first international publication honoring ceremony during her tenure as Vice President of the University was held, honoring the class of her distinguished professor, Prof. Mahmoud El-Metini. Her Excellency emphasized that Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini is an honorable example of a distinguished scholar who loves his country and his university. She noted his leadership in the field of liver transplantation in Egypt and the Arab world, and his outstanding scientific and practical contributions that have influenced successive generations of doctors and scientists who have studied under him. She added that Dr. El-Metini's career has left a clear imprint on supporting and developing the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University, in addition to his significant contributions to advancing the university in various fields, remaining a role model for giving and academic and administrative excellence.
During Prof. Al-Gohary Al-Saeed, Coordinator of the University's International Publishing Committee, explained that Ain Shams University will remain a beacon of knowledge and enlightenment, a source of creativity and leadership, and a resource for graduating knowledgeable and dedicated generations who contribute to nation-building in various fields. He pointed out that honoring scholars at this significant event is a recognition and appreciation of the efforts of all those who have contributed to the university's distinguished history and contributed, through their scientific output, to establishing solid scientific schools dedicated to transferring and investing in knowledge and building qualified cadres, while continuing the progress of scientific research to achieve the university's vision and mission aimed at supporting the national economy and stimulating and keeping pace with global developments.
Professor Al-Gohary also thanked the university leadership for this generous invitation, for the second consecutive time, to hold the honoring ceremony for the recipients of the International Publishing Award at the conference. We are pleased to be part of its activities, reflecting the university leadership's commitment and belief in promoting and encouraging international publishing of scientific research.
