The Faculty of Pharmacy organizes a seminar on manual and electronic mind mapping tools

Continuing its series of awareness seminars at the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector organized the cultural season activities for the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Dr. Rehab Othman, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The seminar, titled "Mapping Your Thoughts: A Guide to Manual and Electronic Mind Mapping Tools," was delivered by Dr. Narmin Victor, Assistant Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry.

The seminar discussed the concept of mind maps as a hierarchical visual technique for organizing information and ideas, as developed by international expert Tony Buzan. It explained their various uses in brainstorming, note-taking, problem-solving, planning, studying, and communication.

It also highlighted the importance of mind maps in the educational process, as they are an effective tool for visual learning, organizing information, encouraging critical thinking and collaboration, and aiding in memorization and comprehension of complex concepts.

The seminar reviewed the basic elements of creating mind maps, along with the seven steps for designing them, starting with selecting a central theme and its branches, and ending with the use of colors, images, and fonts to enhance visual understanding.

A presentation was also given on the most prominent digital tools specialized in creating mind maps, such as MindMeister, XMind, iMindMap/Ayoa, MindNode, Coggle, and FreeMind, explaining the advantages of electronic use in terms of flexibility, ease of storage, and collaborative work, in addition to their applications in knowledge management, project planning, event organization, writing, and website design.

The seminar was supervised by Prof. Rola Milad Labib, Acting Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, with the participation of a group of faculty staff and teaching assistants at the Faculty.
