A cooperation protocol was signed between Ain Shams University Hospitals and the “Our Health for Development” Foundation to equip a pediatric bone marrow transplant unit at a cost of 60 million Egyptian pounds
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation protocol between Ain Shams University Hospitals and the “Our Health for Development” Foundation. The protocol aims to equip a specialized bone marrow transplant unit for children at the Children’s Hospital, a branch of the University Hospitals. This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to developing its medical services and strengthening its partnership with civil society organizations.
The protocol was signed by Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and Mr. Amr Shaker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Our Health for Development” Foundation. Also present were Prof. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals; Prof. Essam Fakhry, Deputy Executive Director of University Hospitals and Director of Demerdash Surgical Hospital; Prof. Ehab Khairy, Head of the Pediatrics Departments at the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Yasmine Gamal, Director of the Children’s Hospital; Prof. Fatima Obeid, Professor of Hematology and Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation and Director of the Clinical Research Center at the hospital; Dr. Rabab Youssef, CEO of the “Our Health for Development” Foundation; and members of the foundation’s team.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen affirmed that Ain Shams University continues to implement its vision for developing the healthcare system, stemming from its national and community role. He pointed out that this protocol represents a qualitative addition to the capabilities of the university hospitals in providing specialized and advanced treatment services for children, while making treatment available free of charge to those unable to afford it, according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
The university president praised the strategic partnership with the “Our Health for Development” Foundation, emphasizing that civil society organizations are key partners in supporting the state’s efforts to improve healthcare services. He added that the ongoing development witnessed at Ain Shams University Hospitals is the result of fruitful cooperation based on trust, credibility, and joint work, which contributes to raising the quality of healthcare provided to citizens.
For his part, Mr. Amr Shaker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Our Health for Development” Foundation, affirmed that the protocol is an extension of the longstanding cooperation between the Foundation and Ain Shams University Hospitals, and embodies the shared commitment to supporting the healthcare system and developing university hospitals to provide the best possible service to patients.
He explained that the cost of equipping the pediatric bone marrow transplant unit is approximately 60 million Egyptian pounds, noting that the project aims to support the state's efforts to expand government bone marrow transplant centers and increase their capacity to reach 100 beds nationwide.
He added that cooperation with Ain Shams University Hospitals has been ongoing since 2018, resulting in the implementation of numerous medical and developmental projects. The value of medical equipment, supplies, and facilities provided by the Foundation has exceeded 214 million Egyptian pounds, benefiting more than three million patients and contributing to enhancing medical services provided to more than 55,000 patients annually.
Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, confirmed that the protocol represents a new link in a series of successful partnerships between Ain Shams University and the “Our Health for Development” Foundation, praising the Foundation’s community role and its continuous contributions to the development of university hospitals and the improvement of the quality of treatment services.
Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, explained that the “Our Health for Development” Foundation is one of the most prominent partners in success and supporters of Ain Shams University Hospitals, noting that cooperation between the two sides has resulted in the implementation of many vital projects over the past years, including equipping the cardiac care units at the Heart and Chest Academy, the cardiac care unit at the Internal Medicine Hospital, the stroke treatment unit, developing the emergency unit, establishing the chemotherapy unit at the Children’s Hospital, and equipping the bone marrow transplant unit for children, which is scheduled to be opened during the coming September.
The pediatric bone marrow transplant unit includes seven intensive care rooms designed according to the advanced capsule system, providing the highest levels of infection protection for young patients. It is also equipped with the latest medical devices, technologies, and supplies to deliver advanced treatment services according to the latest international standards.
