Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Environmental Affairs and Community Service and Acting Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Hossam Tantawi, Dean of the Faculty of Archeology, and coordinated by Mr. Islam Ezzat, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Museum and Archaeological Sites Management, and Coordinator of the Faculty of Archeology for Grants and Research Projects, a delegation from the Faculties of Archeology, Agriculture, and Engineering and the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University participated in the preparatory workshop for the University Heritage Forum, which is organized by the Regional Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in cooperation with 12 Egyptian research and academic bodies, and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. With the aim of preparing a sustainable management and maintenance plan for the city of Cairo, this initiative comes in the context of the Arab Republic of Egypt hosting the International Forum for Urban Development 2024 under the auspices of the Prime Minister.

         
   
         

Ain Shams University, represented by the Faculties of Archeology, Agriculture, and Engineering, and the Faculty of Graduate Studies for Environmental Affairs, participates through an elite group of faculty staff who head work teams of graduate students (Masters and Ph.D.), to prepare plans for projects to reduce the impact of climate change on heritage buildings in Cairo and its surroundings, document heritage buildings, study sustainable maintenance and reduce energy consumption, study green spaces in Cairo and historical parks, adaptive reuse of heritage buildings, in addition to developing the economic return from heritage industries and policies to connect the surrounding community with heritage projects.

These topics were discussed in the preparatory workshop; In preparation for identifying the heritage sites where the proposed plans will be implemented through grants provided by the UNESCO Regional Office to participating students.
