In celebration of Obour Specialized Hospital obtaining international accreditation in accordance with GAHAR standards, and as part of a strategic step reflecting the leadership of Ain Shams University in advancing the healthcare system and enhancing the quality of medical services, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of the University, inaugurated the activities of the hospital’s accreditation celebration.
The event was attended by Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs; Prof. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, Professor of General Surgery and former President of the University; Prof. Mohamed Fawzy Montaser, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Sherif Mourad, Professor of Urology and former Director of Obour Hospital; Mr. Hossam El-Sadek, Executive Director of the Universal Health Insurance Authority; Professor Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board; Professor Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals; Prof. Mohamed Zaki, Director of Obour Specialized Hospital; in addition to the vice deans, heads of departments, and hospital directors.
The celebration also witnessed an unprecedented milestone with the convening of both the Faculty of Medicine Council and the University Hospitals Council inside Obour Specialized Hospital for the first time, reflecting the remarkable progress and successive achievements that have strengthened the hospital’s position as one of the university’s distinguished medical institutions.
In his speech, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, affirmed that the full accreditation granted to Ain Shams Specialized Hospital in Obour by the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation represents a new historic achievement added to the university’s record of accomplishments and those of its university hospitals. He extended his sincere congratulations and appreciation to all hospital staff, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, technicians, and administrators, in recognition of their dedication and efforts in reaching this distinguished level.
He pointed out that the significance of this achievement is further amplified by the fact that Ain Shams Specialized Hospital in Obour has become the first multidisciplinary university hospital in Egypt to receive this prestigious accreditation, reflecting the scale of integrated institutional work, a genuine commitment to development, and full adherence to the highest standards of quality, patient safety, and institutional excellence.
He explained that this success was not achieved overnight, but rather came as the result of years of dedicated work, continuous planning, and teamwork, where all efforts united around a clear goal: providing advanced healthcare services worthy of the Egyptian citizen and reflecting the pioneering status of Ain Shams University in higher education, community service, and healthcare.
He added that the university is not merely celebrating the attainment of an accreditation certificate today but rather celebrating a successful model that confirms the ability of Egyptian university institutions to compete, lead, and make a difference, proving that true investment lies in human capital, competence, and collective teamwork.
The University President also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the hospital leadership and all staff members, calling for continued progress and building upon what has been achieved. He emphasized that maintaining excellence is no less important than attaining it, and that Ain Shams University hospitals will always remain a leading model in development, innovation, and the advancement of healthcare services.
He concluded his speech by expressing pride in what had been accomplished, wishing continued success and distinction to all members of the university and its hospitals, and affirming that Ain Shams University will continue to fulfill its national, academic, and medical mission with efficiency and excellence.
In the same context, Professor Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, affirmed that the achievement realized at Obour Specialized Hospital represents a true model of intergenerational continuity within Ain Shams University. He noted that the hospital’s development journey and its attainment of full accreditation from the Authority spanned nearly twenty years of continuous work, during which generations and leaderships succeeded one another within an integrated system characterized by continuity and cooperation.
He further noted that the hospital’s distinguished geographical location presents an important opportunity for cooperation with the Universal Health Insurance System, particularly with governorates where the system has already been implemented, allowing for the utilization of the hospital’s distinguished medical expertise and capabilities while also supporting its financial resources and enhancing its operational capacity.
He extended thanks to all former university presidents and leaders who contributed to the hospital’s development over the years, praising the efforts made to secure the financial support necessary to complete the development work. He stressed that today’s achievement is the result of collective efforts involving all administrations and successive leaderships.
He also expressed appreciation for all former and current directors of Obour Hospital, giving special thanks to Dr. Mohamed Zaki, Director of Obour Specialized Hospital, and all hospital staff for their tremendous efforts under varying and difficult circumstances until the hospital reached this distinguished level.
He revealed the university administration’s direction, under the leadership of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, to establish the Ain Shams National University Faculty of Medicine adjacent to Obour Hospital, affirming that the presence of a fully integrated university hospital would constitute a strong addition to the new faculty and an important advantage enhancing the quality of education and training.
At the conclusion of his speech, he praised the significant role played by the hospital’s Quality and Infection Control Department, emphasizing that the culture of quality has now become an essential part of the medical and administrative work system and the true path toward accreditation, support, and sustainable development. He also thanked all attendees and supporters of the journey of success and development within the Faculty of Medicine and its university hospitals.
In his speech, Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, affirmed that celebrating Obour Hospital’s institutional accreditation represents a special occasion for all members of the medical system. He noted that the celebration witnessed, for the first time, the convening of both the Faculty Council and the Hospitals Council inside the hospital in recognition of its remarkable development and successive achievements.
He explained that the development of Obour Hospital was the result of cumulative efforts involving numerous university and medical leaders over the years, extending his gratitude to several former university presidents and deans, foremost among them Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din and Prof. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, in appreciation of their continuous support for the hospital.
He pointed out that Obour Hospital played a pivotal role during crises, whether during the COVID-19 pandemic as the first specialized isolation hospital among university hospitals, or during the reception of injured individuals from Gaza, affirming that the hospital has always been a key pillar supporting the healthcare system.
He also stressed that the success in obtaining accreditation was the result of determination, teamwork, and the commitment of the work team, not merely material capabilities, expressing gratitude to all administrations and staff members who contributed to the hospital’s development.
He concluded by affirming that the next phase aims to strengthen Obour Hospital’s role as a primary source of support for university hospital resources through expanding contracts with the Universal Health Insurance System and various insurance entities.
At the conclusion of the celebration, former and current directors of Obour Hospital, along with hospital staff members, were honored in appreciation of their dedicated efforts.
