Minister of Higher Education: USAID announces $4 million research grants

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, testified that the US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the application for proposals for research grants amounting to $4 million, which focus in particular on energy and climate-related issues to develop multiple innovative solutions for the energy sector in Egypt, as part of the Research and Knowledge Exchange Program that It is a component of the Energy Excellence Center project funded by the US Agency, on the sidelines of the 27th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).

The Minister of Higher Education emphasized that the Energy Center of Excellence is an applied example of successful international academic partnership and cooperation, through this $4 million investment in innovative applied research, where Egyptian-American researchers come together to find solutions to global challenges in the energy sector.

     
 
     

Ms. Leslie Reid, USAID Mission Director, explained that finding innovative energy solutions is critical for all countries to reduce harmful emissions, noting the United States welcomes support research that works to find innovative solutions to local challenges in Egypt and to cooperate with geniuses and innovators in the energy sector in the United States and Egypt.

The Energy Center of Excellence program is implemented by Arizona State University in partnership with Ain Shams, Mansoura, and Aswan Universities. Through this initiative, the American funding aims to support research carried out by more than 50 faculty staff and more than 75 students in Egyptian partner universities, Arizona State University, as well as providing advanced research tools and equipment, exchange of graduate programs, exchange of faculty staff experiences, and other research activities. The United States Agency for International Development invests more than $300 million; To protect Egypt's natural resources and enhance Egypt's ability to adapt and resiliency in the face of climate change.
