As part of Ain Shams University’s commitment to honoring its outstanding students, nurturing student talents, supporting their participation in international events, and providing an educational and research environment aligned with the University’s strategy of promoting innovation and excellence, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, honored students from the Faculties of Engineering and Computers and Information who won international awards in global competitions.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences; Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Education and Student Affairs; and Ms. Shereen Rady, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences for Community Service and Environmental Development.

In his speech, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the parents who spared no effort in supporting their children, noting that they are truly the happiest when they see the fruits of their efforts realized.

He also commended the students for their outstanding efforts, emphasizing that the value of participation does not lie solely in winning, but also in having confidence in one’s abilities and believing in oneself. Such confidence, he noted, is the first step toward success, regardless of the outcome.

He stressed that an innovator’s role is to generate an idea and work to develop it, while the University’s role is to adopt these ideas, seek to market them, and bring them to fruition.

He also praised the prominent role played by the University’s faculty members, describing them as the cornerstone of the educational process. He explained that developing and preparing faculty members is among the most challenging and valuable objectives the University seeks to achieve.

The President emphasized the University’s positive and effective role in contributing to solving national challenges and urged students to work diligently to develop practical solutions to the challenges facing their country, noting that knowledge is the only path to achieving this goal.

Concluding his remarks, he expressed his sincere wishes for the students’ continued progress, excellence, and success.

The True Secret of Success Lies in Teamwork

Prof. Dr. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, congratulated all the participating teams on this major achievement, which he described as a source of great pride. He emphasized that the true secret of success lies in team spirit, as cooperation and solidarity among team members are what make the difference and lead to outstanding achievements.

He stressed that, to continue achieving major successes and build on what has already been accomplished, the University must continue along this path and expand its horizons. He also called on students to remain connected to the University even after graduation, as it is the foundation from which they launched their careers and their partner throughout their journey of success.

Ain Shams Wind Turbine Team Wins Third Place Worldwide

Prof. Amr Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, reviewed the origins of the Wind Turbine Team, which won third place worldwide in the International Small Wind Turbine Competition (ISTWC), held in the Netherlands. The team was established in 2017 with the aim of creating a core group of researchers and students specializing in this field.

The team has participated in the International Small Wind Turbine Competition, organized by Hanze University of Applied Sciences and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, since 2017. He noted that this marks the team’s first top-ranking achievement since its establishment.

He added that the University’s team was the first non-European team to participate in the competition. Over the years, more than 200 students from various programs at the Faculty of Engineering have participated through graduation projects and practical training, including students from the Energy and Mechanical Power, Production, and Mechatronics programs.

The competition aims to design and build small wind turbines capable of generating the maximum possible amount of energy. Participating teams are evaluated based on safety and security considerations, mechanical and electrical efficiency, cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and design aesthetics.

The team previously won the Best Annual Energy Production and Best Turbine Manufacturing awards in 2019 and 2022.

This year, the team participated in the competition held in the Netherlands from July 7 to 10, 2026, alongside teams from 14 universities worldwide. The Dean praised the University’s continued support and expressed his pride in seeing Ain Shams University represented on the international stage.

Ain Shams Students Excel in Huawei and Renewable Energy Competitions

Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, highlighted the faculty’s ongoing commitment to establishing effective partnerships with software companies and the industrial sector to develop students’ skills and enhance their competitiveness.

She explained that the Huawei team, which participated in the competition on multiple occasions and won first place last year, continued its outstanding performance this year by winning the Grand Prize twice, in the fields of Cloud Computing and Advanced Computing.

The competition was hosted in Shenzhen, China, and is considered one of the largest and most significant international competitions specializing in information and communications technology.

She also noted that a second team achieved a similar accomplishment through its participation in a renewable energy hackathon organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The hackathon focused on using artificial intelligence to develop smart solutions for the new and renewable energy sector and was held as part of the fourth edition of the University Capacity Building Initiative in Artificial Intelligence, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with Dell Technologies.

The winning project stood out for its innovative use of artificial intelligence technologies to serve the new and renewable energy sector.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the President of Ain Shams University presented certificates of appreciation to the outstanding student team members and supervising faculty members. Commemorative photos were also taken to document this distinguished achievement, which reflects the ability of Egyptian youth to compete and lead on the international stage.
