The Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts, the Rotary Club and Cairo Platinum, organized a symposium entitled "Your Health is Our Concern" on the sidelines of the “Charity Exhibition for Student Clothes”, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zein El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Hanan Muhammad Salem, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Hatem Rabie, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and under the supervision and organization of Prof. Hind Al-Hilali, Director of the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit at the university, in the presence of Prof. Amal El-Sisi, Professor of Pediatrics at Cairo University, Head of the Giant Grant Program to Eliminate Cervical Cancer in Egypt, and Director of Rotary Cairo Projects, Ms. Seham Gebril, Director of the Governorates Committee of the National Council for Women, Ms. Gehan Tamo, Director of the Women and Girls Committee, Rotary Cairo, and Ms. Nelly Samir, President of the Cairo Platinum Rotary Club.

Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty, stressed the Faculty’s keenness since 2016 to participate in the activities of the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, sponsored by the National Council for Women and in cooperation with the Women’s Support Unit. The 16-day campaign to combat violence against women began over two days in the Faculty of Arts, during the opening of the charity exhibition on the first day, in addition to the activities of a symposium entitled “Your Health is Our Concern” on the second day in a row at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University.

She pointed out the role of women and that they are half of society and their major role in progress and development, and that women and men are basic pillars that complement each other in society, expressing her support for charitable work within society, especially Ain Shams University, and the extent to which students benefit from the services provided by exhibitions and awareness campaigns in cooperation with the Anti-Violence Unit within the university.

Prof. Hend El-Helaly, Director of the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit, explained the unit’s role in conducting health awareness campaigns for students to learn about common and malignant diseases such as tumors and how to detect disease and protection through identifying types of food that strengthen the body’s immunity and protect against exposure to cancers, in addition to highlighting and clarifying the role of the Women’s Support Unit and anti-violence specialists, consultants and student volunteers from the university’s faculties conduct awareness campaigns for new students about what the unit is and the services provided, and clarify the role of the unit in supporting women and combating violence at Ain Shams University for male and female students to create a safe educational environment on campus, and learn about the training courses offered by the unit to develop the psychological and physical capabilities of female students and overcoming crises and negative feelings resulting from their exposure to violence and bullying by providing means of protection for male and female students, whether inside or outside the university campus.

Prof. Amal El-Sisi, Professor of Pediatrics at Cairo University and Head of the Giant Grant Program to Eliminate Cervical Cancer in Egypt, pointed out that there are new types of cancers spreading in the world, including human papilloma, which sometimes causes cancers and skin acacia, and affects men and women. It is possible for this virus to be transmitted through infection, skin contact, using other people’s belongings, and using lasers without sterilization from one person to another in specialized centers. It is spreading in Cairo at a rate of 10% as a result of immunodeficiency, high blood pressure, diabetes, a high percentage of body fat, smoking, or taking chemical cancer medications. The tumor can also spread among men in different ways and is found in many places, such as the mouth and pharynx as a result of smoking, the anus, the neck, and skin acacia. The disease can be eliminated through early detection and vaccination.

Ms. Seham Gebril, member of the Committee of 30, member of the National Council for Women, and rapporteur of the Governorates Committee highlighted the role of the National Council for Women and its support for empowering them in the past and coming years through the 2030 strategy, which was approved by the President of the Republic in 2016. In 2017, the empowerment of Egyptian women was announced through that strategy, and it resulted in many Among the main axes are political empowerment, economic empowerment, social and legal empowerment, and finally the protection axis, which is considered one of the most important axes because of its interest in the health of women and girls and protecting them from the harm of widespread chronic diseases such as cancerous tumors through conducting awareness campaigns within the governorates, in addition to protecting women from all forms of violence such as domestic and electronic violence and harassment. Bullying, deprivation of inheritance, and forced early marriage of minors within society. Through all of these roles, the National Council for Women directly supports women in confronting the problems and violence they are exposed to within society, noting that Egyptian women are the third and most important line of defense within Egyptian society.

Dr. Gehan Tamo, Director of the Women and Girls Committee, Rotary Cairo Platinum’s explained the role in supporting the community, conducting medical convoys, clothing fairs, and awareness campaigns for civil society.

Ms. Nelly Samir, Director of the Platinum Rotary Club, pointed out that this club is the oldest civil society organization that has been serving Egyptian society for 92 years in all development fields related to supporting women and girls’ health on campus through the awareness campaign on how to detect early cervical cancer and how to prevent cervical cancer. the womb.

The symposium comes as part of an event organized by the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit at Ain Shams University in cooperation with Rotary Cairo Platinum during two consecutive days on campus. It included an awareness campaign about the types of cancer that affect humans, the work of the Women’s Support Unit and the services provided to girls and women on campus. The event also included a charitable exhibition clothing for male and female students at Ain Shams University.

In conclusion, shields and certificates were distributed to the dean of the college, deputies, attendees, participants in the symposium, and members of the Cairo Platinum Rotary Club through the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit, headed by Prof. Hend El-Helaly, Director of the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit.
