She added that Dr. Lars, Professor of Water Resources, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Cologne, Germany, and Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Professor of Environmental Hydraulics and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, Prof. Dr. Ali Nabih El Bahrawy, Professor of Hydraulics, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Dr. Hassan Abul-Naga, researcher in water resources, University of Cologne, Germany, Dr. Yasmine Khalifa, researcher at the University of England.

A number of trainees participated from the Ministers of Irrigation, Agriculture and Environment, and trainees from outside Egypt from India, South Africa and Germany

Prof. Dr. Ali El Bahrawy believes that at present more than half of the world's people live in cities, and it is expected that by 2050, the proportion of urban dwellers will reach 68% of the world's total population.

Many cities and countries around the world face a range of pressures: rapid urban population growth, climate change, economic expansion, and competing demands.

These forces of change are constraining available water resources in regions where tackling water scarcity is already a critical challenge.

The need to secure an inclusive and sustainable water supply for cities is thus clear enough that, historically, a reliable source of potable water is closely linked to inclusive economic growth, public health, and political stability.

Given the key role that water plays, it is essential to ensure that water availability keeps pace with the increasing demand for water from the growing urban population.
