The Faculty of Law signs a cooperation agreement with Bonavero Institute at the University of Oxford

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, signed a cooperation agreement with Bonavero Institute at the Faculty of Law at Oxford University, during his visit to the United Kingdom, which takes several days to discuss aspects of joint academic cooperation with a number of universities and international research centers.

The signing ceremony of the agreement, which took place at the headquarters of Bonavero Institute at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford, was witnessed by Dr. Kate Oregon, Director of the Institute, Dr. Rasha Kamal, and Dr. Ahmed Fathi Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Faculty, and the Regional Coordinator of the competition in the Middle East since 2014.

This agreement between the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University and Oxford University is the first of its kind in the field of law in the Middle East, and according to it, the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University has become the regional partner in the Middle East to organize the international competition for photo pleading in the field of media law.

The competition requires that student participants prepare written submissions and oral arguments on a hypothetical case that raises potential violations of the media law, whereby students must plead once as representatives of the prosecution and once as representatives of the defense.

This type of competition is one of the important means of training students in the balanced analysis of various issues, as well as developing their abilities to think critically, which is the basis of modern legal education.

The agreement also provided for joint cooperation in organizing workshops, seminars and exchanging teaching curricula in everything related to the field of media law.

This step comes in light of the current trend of the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University, and its Dean, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Safi, to develop legal education to link it with the skills necessary for the labor market, as well as within the framework of Ain Shams University’s plan to build partnerships with prestigious international bodies and universities in a way that increases the university’s competitiveness and raises the profile its international rating.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini's visit to the United Kingdom continues for several days, during which he will meet with officials from King's College, Queen Mary, Cambridge and Imperial College universities, with the aim of opening new horizons for cooperation for all university faculties.
