The second day of the first joint scientific seminar on Islamic archaeology between Ain Shams and Cairo Universities, entitled "New Visions in Islamic Arts and Architecture," was held

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, President of Cairo University, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Mahmoud El Saeed, Vice President of Cairo University for Graduate Studies and Research, and under the supervision of Prof. Hossam Tantawy, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology at Ain Shams University, Prof. Mohsen Mohamed Saleh, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University, Prof. Nader Abdel Dayem, Acting Head of the Department of Islamic Archaeology at the Faculty of Archaeology, Ain Shams University, and Prof. Yasser Ismail, Head of the Department of Islamic Archaeology at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University, and in the presence of Prof. Ahmed Ragab Ali, Vice President of Cairo University for Education and Student Affairs, and within the framework of the Faculty of Archaeology at Ain Shams University’s keenness to support academic cooperation and exchange scientific experiences with Egyptian university institutions, the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University witnessed the holding of the second day of the first joint scientific seminar on Islamic archaeology, which came under the title: “New Visions in Islamic Arts and Architecture”, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, with the participation of a distinguished group of professors, researchers and specialists in the field of Islamic archaeology and arts.

   
   

The day's events began with welcoming the attendees, followed by the official opening of the seminar. The second scientific session then commenced, chaired by Prof. Ahmed Ragab, Vice President of Cairo University for Education and Student Affairs. This session featured presentations of several research papers by faculty staff from the Faculty of Archaeology at Ain Shams University. These papers addressed specialized topics in the fields of Islamic architecture and arts, including:

• "The Compatibility of Decorative Designs in Early Islamic Architecture and Applied Arts," presented by Prof. Nader Abdel-Dayem.

• "The Islamic Tombstone Project," by Prof. Ahmed El-Shouky.

• "Painted Bata Scrolls in West Bengal: A Study of a 12th-century AH/18th-century CE Scroll in the British Museum," by Prof. Nawal Gaber.

• Prof. Ghada El-Gammi'i from the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University, also presented a paper entitled: "Islamic Architecture in Iran as Evidence of the Emergence of Innovative Architectural Styles and Units."

The research presented was characterized by its diversity and scholarly richness, reflecting the importance of interdisciplinary studies in the field of Islamic archaeology and contributing to opening new horizons for academic discussion among faculty members, researchers, and students. The scholarly discussions also emphasized the importance of continuing to support research collaboration among Egyptian universities and strengthening joint scientific projects.

   
   

The event underscored the importance of scientific integration between the Faculties of Archaeology at Ain Shams and Cairo Universities, considering it a fruitful model for academic cooperation and the exchange of expertise. This collaboration contributes to the development of archaeological studies and the preparation of research personnel capable of keeping pace with modern trends in the fields of Islamic archaeology, arts, and architecture.

The event was jointly organized by: Prof. Asst. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel-Aal, Faculty of Archaeology, Ain Shams University, and Prof. Asst. Dr.Emad Suleiman Abdel-Salam, at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University.
