Awareness Day on Pompe Disease at the Faculty of Medicine Highlights the Importance of Medical Integration in Addressing Rare Diseases

As part of efforts to raise awareness of rare diseases, and under the patronage of Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and Prof. Solaf Mohamed, Head of the Department of Medical Genetics, the Department of Medical Genetics, in cooperation with the Egyptian Society of Genetic Diseases, organized a distinguished celebration on the occasion of Pompe Disease Awareness Day.

The event featured interactive discussions between physicians and patients, highlighting the importance of integration among various medical specialties in diagnosing and treating rare diseases, through the application of a multidisciplinary team management approach.

Prof. Solaf Mohamed, Professor of Medical Genetics, delivered an awareness lecture addressing the nature of Pompe disease, its key symptoms, diagnostic methods, and the latest available treatment approaches.

Additionally, Prof. Dalia Ezz El-Din, Professor of Physical Medicine and Rheumatology, reviewed the vital role of physiotherapy in improving patients’ health conditions and enhancing their quality of life.

In the same context, Prof. Haya Essam, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Nutrition, delivered a lecture on the importance of proper nutrition as a key factor in supporting patient treatment and improving their response to therapy.

The celebration also included several recreational activities for children, which brought joy to patients and their families in a warm, supportive, and compassionate atmosphere.
