The Faculty of Dentistry hosted the “Etman” seminar as part of the global “16 Days of Activism Against Violence” campaign, organized by the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit in collaboration with the National Council for Women

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and under the supervision of Prof. Karim El-Batoty, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and Prof. Walaa Hamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Dentistry hosted a seminar titled “Atman” as part of the global “16 Days of Activism Against Violence” campaign, launched this December under the auspices of the United Nations and the National Council for Women.

The seminar targeted the faculty’s students and staff, aiming to raise their awareness of protection methods against various forms of violence both on and off campus, in public and private spaces alike. It also highlighted the efforts of Ain Shams University and its faculties in providing a safe and secure educational environment for all.

Dr. Shaimaa Naim, Director of Strategic Planning at the National Council for Women, delivered a speech on behalf of Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women. She outlined the services and initiatives provided by the state to support Egyptian families, particularly Egyptian women, while shedding light on services related to economic, social, and political empowerment, as well as protection mechanisms. She also referenced hotlines for reporting complaints, including the National Council for Women’s hotline and the Cybercrime Hotline.

Prof. Hind El-Helaly, Director of the Women’s Support Unit at Ain Shams University, also addressed the audience, discussing proper steps and mechanisms for crisis management and combating all forms of violence, especially digital and electronic violence, as well as the official channels available through hotlines and established legal procedures.

On the sidelines of the event, a training workshop was held for a group of administrative staff, focusing on mechanisms for coping with daily pressures and challenges in the workplace and at home. The workshop was led by Dr. Amany Abdel-Aal, Clinical Psychology Specialist at the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit, who employed various expressive therapeutic techniques such as art therapy, drawing, rhythmic arts, and sculpting to strengthen psychological resilience, particularly during study and exam periods.

The seminar witnessed strong engagement from administrative staff, who raised insightful questions that enriched the discussions, providing a platform for experience-sharing and deepening understanding of how to confront violence and ensure a safe campus environment.

This event comes as part of ongoing national efforts to protect women and students within the university community, reflecting the active role played by Ain Shams University and the National Council for Women in combating violence and fostering a safe educational and residential environment for all.
