Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Geena El-Feki, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and General Supervisor of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and Prof. Neveen Assem, Executive Director of the Innovation and Training Sector, Ain Shams University, through its Training and Development Center (I-Hub), hosted a series of workshops organized by the international publisher Elsevier over four days under the title: “Empowering Scientific Research in Egypt: AI, Integrity, and Impact”, as part of the activities of Research and Innovation Week 2025, in collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB).

The workshops witnessed wide participation from researchers, editors-in-chief of Egyptian scientific journals, and several deans from various Egyptian universities. Discussions focused on the latest trends and key issues in scientific research and academic publishing, with the aim of enhancing the quality of Egyptian research outputs and boosting their regional and international competitiveness.
The sessions, marked by strong interaction both on-site and via Zoom, attracted more than 250 in-person participants including researchers and university professors, in addition to 400 virtual attendees from Egyptian universities and research institutions.
Representing the Egyptian Knowledge Bank were Ms. Rabab Rashwan, Mr. Mohamed Salah (Supervisor of Scientific Journals), Dr. Lucia Ciompi, a data analysis specialist, and Eng. Khaled Shaalan, representative of the international publisher Elsevier, along with the EKB’s scientific publishing team.

The sessions covered research and publishing ethics, including authorship issues, combating predatory journals, paper mills, and fraudulent publishing, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in detecting plagiarism and ensuring research integrity.
A special focus was given to the use of AI tools in daily research practices under the theme: “Eureka Everyday: How Elsevier AI Tools Can Unleash Your Productivity”. Participants received hands-on training on Scopus AI, ScienceDirect AI, and Mendeley AI, with an emphasis on the responsible use of AI to support scientific productivity.
The workshops also explored data analytics strategies and their role in the strategic planning of universities and research institutions, using the SciVal platform, which helps enhance academic excellence and strengthen the international visibility of Egyptian institutions.

The event concluded with specialized sessions on the indexing of Egyptian scientific journals in Scopus, including presentations on indexing criteria, citation analysis, and practical guidance for editors-in-chief to improve publication quality and increase international reach.
These workshops reflect Ain Shams University’s commitment to supporting the national scientific research ecosystem and aligning it with Egypt’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy, contributing to the development of a strong knowledge base capable of regional and global competitiveness.
