Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, witnessed the flag-raising and salute ceremony marking the start of the 2025-2026 academic year, in the presence of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and a delegation of deans and vice-deans of the faculties. This annual tradition, organized by the Students and Education Sector, took on an ancient Pharaonic theme this year in celebration of Ain Shams University’s Diamond Jubilee. The event was supervised by Dr. Ibrahim Saeed Hamza, Assistant Secretary of the University for the Students and Education Sector, in collaboration with Mr. Mohamed El-Gamal, Head of the Central Administration of the University Sector, and executed by the student organizations Students for Egypt and the Ain Shams University Student Union.

In his speech, the University President emphasized Ain Shams University’s commitment to providing a comprehensive educational environment that combines academic excellence with student activities. He congratulated the students, faculty members, and administrative staff on the start of the new academic year, highlighting the university’s continuous efforts to develop its educational programs to meet the evolving requirements of the labor market.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedein clarified that student activities are an integral part of the educational process, contributing to character building, leadership skills, and personal development. He also affirmed that the university fully supports students with special needs through specialized initiatives and programs to integrate them and facilitate their academic journey. He concluded his speech by wishing everyone a successful academic year filled with achievements and excellence.

The Academic Year Welcome Festival was organized and coordinated by the Students and Education Sector in collaboration with the Students for Egypt organization at Ain Shams University and the Student Union across all its committees—social, cultural, artistic, scouting, family, scientific, sports, and the Central Social Solidarity Fund. The Student Unions and Families Department introduced students to the activities offered by the Student Union and Students for Egypt and explained how to participate.
The University President also attended the ON Choir performance, held as part of the welcome festival, and toured the Fine Arts Exhibition, which included workshops on drawing and sculpture, alongside performance segments by the University’s folk and show arts teams.
The Scientific and Technological Activities Department organized multiple workshops, including small productive industries, chemical industries, an electronics workshop for designing solar-powered mobile chargers, a DIY perfume-making workshop, and a workshop on insect anatomy and preservation. The exhibition also displayed inventions and innovations by students from various faculties, including VR glasses developed by the university students.
Additionally, competitions were held on the main campus in sports, electronic, and recreational games throughout the welcome period, coordinated by the Sports Activities Department. Activities suitable for students with disabilities were also organized.
The Scouting and Public Service Department conducted various educational art workshops for all students, organized an art exhibition produced by the scouting committee, and offered evening entertainment, recreational games, and scouting activity competitions, including handicraft training for students with disabilities.
The Cultural Activities Department organized a free book fair, distributing a valuable collection of books across various cultural fields, conducted a Q&A competition using the “Wheel of Geniuses” system, and awarded prizes to winners. Students were also registered for participation in cultural activities, and the department introduced its various fields, including Quran competitions, Hadith contests, poetry, theatrical writing, and other literary disciplines.
The Social Activities and Excursions Department organized general knowledge competitions (Q&A) and chess competitions for students. The Central Social Solidarity Fund introduced students to its services and the necessary documents required to access them.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedein also inspected the Students with Disabilities Service Center, which provides a range of services to students with special needs. Administrative procedures and mechanisms for accessing these services were explained, and flyers were distributed to facilitate students with disabilities in obtaining their rights and services, promoting their rapid integration into university life.
A dedicated pavilion for the General Administration of Medical Affairs provided free health checks, including blood pressure, sugar, weight, height, blood type, and vision tests. Students were also introduced to medical services provided by the university, including medical examinations, drug dispensing, the Anti-Addiction Fund, and the main Blood Bank affiliated with the Serum and Vaccine Institute (VACSERA).
The Innovation and Training Sector pavilion aimed to enhance a culture of creativity and entrepreneurship, explaining its role in offering workshops and training programs to improve individual and group competencies.
The International Students Administration pavilion offered support for foreign students, introduced them to the administration’s role, facilitated administrative procedures, and assisted in cultural integration. Additional pavilions included the Saffron Museum and the General Administration of University Dormitories.
During his tour, the University President visited the Alumni Association pavilion, which showcased the association’s role, importance, services, membership procedures, and ID issuance.
He also toured the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector pavilion, which highlighted the sector’s role in developing the surrounding environment and the services provided to students in collaboration with the Students and Education Sector, especially in remote areas through awareness campaigns and medical convoys, and how students can participate in and benefit from these campaigns.
The President inspected the service area, which included the Tahya Misr Fund with its various initiatives such as Dukkan Al-Farha and Bel Hana Wel Shifa, as well as the Bank of Egypt and social solidarity units.
A dedicated pavilion for the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit showcased its services and awareness programs for students.
A complete pavilion for Ain Shams National University displayed the university’s programs, giving students the opportunity to explore a wide range of student, social, cultural, sports, scouting, and family activities, alongside enjoying performances and shows held as part of the welcome festival for the new academic year.
