The activities of Mental Health Day at the Faculty of Pharmacy: "A Comprehensive Awareness Journey Towards a Better Understanding of Mental Disorders"

As part of the ongoing efforts of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ain Shams University to integrate practical skills and awareness into the curriculum, the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ain Shams University organized a "Mental Health Day" event under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Rehab Othman, Acting Dean of the Faculty, and under the supervision of Prof. Ebtehal El-Demerdash, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.

This activity was part of the student activities supplementing the practical lessons of the Pharmacology 2 course for third-year students in the Bachelor of Pharmacy (PharmD) system. It was supervised by Prof. Mai Tolba, the course coordinator, with the assistance of faculty staff from the department.

         
   
         

The event covered 25 diverse topics in the field of mental health, presented by various groups of third-year students. Topics included awareness of common mental disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, autism, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as well as contemporary phenomena such as mobile phone addiction and the impact of social media on mental health. The positive effects of physical activity and proper nutrition on mental health were also highlighted.

The students excelled in preparing awareness brochures printed in both Arabic and English. Designed in an engaging and engaging style, they aimed to simplify information for non-specialists and raise awareness of how to identify, assist, and support mental health patients, and guide them to seek specialized assistance.

         
   
         

The event targeted students at other levels and programs at the faculty, as well as employees and workers. A select group of professors from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Ain Shams University participated in evaluating the students' work, along with Prof. Azza Awad and Prof. Heba Allah Ibrahim, professors in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Al-Azhar University.
