The First aid workshop at the Faculty of Al-Alsun

The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, organized a workshop entitled “First Aid”, under the patronage of Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, and supervised by Prof. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, was presented by Dr. Manar Al-Shorbagy, Director of the Faculty’s Medical Center.

During her opening speech, Prof. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, said that first aid is necessary in cases of emergency and sudden injuries, as first aid skills are among the most important skills that everyone must know, regardless of the person, stressing that the faculty provides in each floor three Dedicated boxes contain first aid kits and are equipped with all the medical supplies necessary to face any emergency.

While Dr. Manar Al-Shorbaji, Director of the Faculty’s Medical Center, discussed the definition of first aid, which is the initial and rapid measures that are taken to provide emergency and urgent assistance to a person suffering from an accident or illness.

First aid aims to preserve a person's life and reduce the severity of the injury or danger before specialized medical care arrives. Common first aid includes stopping bleeding, applying pressure to wounds, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation if breathing or cardiac arrest occurs, and keeping the person in a lying position if he or she is suffering from an injury.

It reviewed basic first aid techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

It also covered an explanation of suffocation management, which is a basic first aid technique in the event of respiratory arrest resulting from airway obstruction, where it is verified that the person is unable to speak or cry and breathe.

She referred to wound care and bleeding control, which includes direct pressure on the wound through the use of a clean bandage to control bleeding and prevent excessive blood loss, treat burns and fever, treat fractures and sprains, heart attacks, hypersensitivity, sunstroke and low body temperature.

Dr. Manar Al-Shorbagy concluded the workshop by presenting the most important free services provided by the faculty’s medical center to students.

The workshop received a strong response from faculty staff, students and administrators at the faculty.
