The Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University hosted the campaign activities launched by the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit at the university, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, and supervised by Prof. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Hind Al-Hilali, professor at the Faculty of Medicine and head of the Women’s Support and Anti-Violence Unit.

During her opening speech, Prof. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, said that the university’s role is pivotal and it is keen on awareness campaigns among students with the aim of creating a new generation that can face practical life after graduation armed with science and culture within the framework of the state’s 2030 strategic plan.

         
   
         

Prof. Hind Al-Hilali, confirmed the university’s role in taking all measures and how to deal with cases that have been subjected to violence, bullying, or harassment from the psychological and social aspects, and how these cases are transferred to the unit to take the necessary legal measures through the Legal Committee and the Psychological Support Committee, as well as the Training and Capacity Development Committee and the Social and Entrepreneurship Committee. It reviewed the unit’s most important achievements and how it works inside and outside the university campus, as the first unit at the level of Egyptian universities, based on scientific foundations to combat all forms of violence within the university, and submits its reports directly to the university president to take deterrent measures against any student or professor who issues a position that is inappropriate for him to act inside Campus, this step represents the strength and support provided by the university, after presenting it to consultants and writing the report, in addition to working to calm the girl and confront her problem.

Prof. Rania Samir, Professor of Pediatrics at Kasr Al-Aini and a certified trainer at the Rotary Club of Egypt, mentioned an initiative to eliminate cervical tumors in Egypt within a two-year plan due to the high rate of its spread in Egypt and the Arab world, and to spread its prevention in Egypt, as about 1,350 women are infected with late stages.

She pointed out that one of its biggest causes is the so-called human papillomavirus (HPV), and discussed how to prevent cervical cancer. Confirming that it is the only cancer that can be prevented through vaccination against the virus.

         
   
         

She confirmed that the human virus infects both men and women, and causes cancer in the anus, mouth, and male reproductive organs for men, and for women, it causes cervical cancer. The virus can infect a person without any symptoms, and about 80% of people are treated within two years without any medical intervention on their own.

Dr. Mustafa Nagy, lecturer of surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University and responsible for the clinic for early detection of breast tumors, discussed that 70% of breast tumors are benign and the cells do not spread outside a specific area. He explained that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for women. Statistics indicate that one in every 8 women is diagnosed with breast cancer, noting that the treatment journey for breast cancer is long, but the infected person must go through it as soon as the disease is discovered to eliminate it, stressing that the cure rate in the first stage is 95%.

Dr. Nada Hamad Mahmoud, Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, at Ain Shams University, also reviewed the role of medicinal plants in preventing cancer, noting that a medicinal plant is any plant used in treatment, such as ginger, turmeric, garlic, tomatoes, watermelon, and carrots. These vegetables work to increase resistance against cancer, whether they are in its raw form or cooked.

Prof. Suheir Safwat, Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Education, at Ain Shams University, mentioned that the health of the mind begins with thinking, stressing that positive thinking is conscious, emotional thinking, and it is flexible thinking that does not depend on problems, exaggerating them, or blaming oneself. She discussed many examples that enhance mental health and expand students’ awareness of creating a healthy environment by avoiding pessimism and working to create a positive atmosphere of mind with the aim of continuing life in a more flexible manner.

The campaign ended with a workshop on psychological stress presented by Dr. Amani Abdel-Al, a clinical psychologist, and the campaign witnessed a large turnout from students, administrators, faculty staff, and teaching assistants.

The symposium was followed by interactive training on stress management for attendees, such as study and work pressures and family problems, presented by Dr. Amani Abdel Aal, clinical psychologist.
