The third Annual International Conference on Kidney Transplantation, Immunology, and Organ Transplantation

The Annual Conference on Kidney, Organ, and Immunology Transplantation in its third session, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hospitals, stressed the need to follow up on donors and encourage each center to have an annual follow-up clinic for donors, and the importance of communicating with the immunology consultant to clarify the confusion in the results of some immunological tests, which allows the transplantation decision to be made and the patients to be followed up.

The conference also stressed the need for the medical director of the kidney transplant team to be accredited by the Egyptian Society of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation and the General Syndicate of Physicians and Free Therapists, in addition to having good experience in kidney transplantation.

The conference also called for the establishment of histocompatibility-specific accreditation under the umbrella of GAHAR and the representation of transplant immunology experts in these working groups. Advocacy activities included professional societies and government accrediting agencies to establish requirements for transplant program directors that include appropriate education and training to increase expertise (such as the number of transplanted cases).

It is noteworthy that the conference was held over three days during the period from January 11 to January 13 of this year, under the supervision of the Department of Organ Transplantation at Ain Shams Medicine, and it met with great success, during which various aspects of immunology were discussed, as well as the genetics of renal transplantation and the role of immunological tests. Which plays an integral part in diagnosis and treatment decisions in the transplant process.
