The first human rights seminar was held at the Faculty of Arts

Today, the Center for Middle East Research and Future Studies held the first seminar on “Human Rights... Between Theory and Practice” hosted by the prestigious Faculty of Arts.

This is under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Affairs and Environmental Development and Chairman of the Center’s Board of Directors, and with the gracious hosting of Prof. Hanan Kamel, Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

This symposium is considered part of a series of educational seminars organized by the Middle East Research Center, headed by Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, Director of the Center, in an initiative that is the first of its kind to be held in all university faculties, aiming to spread the culture of human rights among university students and so that they are aware of the basic rights guaranteed to them by the Constitution and the law.

The symposium was given by Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, a faculty member at the Faculty of Law and director of the center, where he began by defining the concept of human rights, their goals, how to apply them, and knowing their sources.

His Excellency explained that human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of their nationality, color, religion, language, or any other status. All these rights are interdependent, mutually reinforcing, and indivisible.

He also added that the state's duty towards human rights is to recognize, protect, respect, and ensure their implementation. It is obligated to provide human rights such as education, health, eliminating slums, providing a decent life, and many other duties.

Dr. Hatem Al-Abd also referred to an important human right, which is the right to run for elections and the right to participate by casting a vote as long as the conditions required for that are met, and he stressed that it is a national duty.

After the end of the symposium, the discussion was opened for the attending students, where Dr. Hatem Al-Abd answered all their inquiries.
