Introduction to journalism and media translation...a workshop for students of the Faculty of Al-Alsun

The Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University organized a workshop entitled “Introduction to Journalism and Media Translation,” under the patronage of Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, and supervised by Prof. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, presented by Prof. Ahmed Moawad, deputy editor-in-chief of Al-Masaa newspaper, in the presence of Dr. Nahid Raheel, field training coordinator at the Faculty.

During her opening speech, Prof. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, said that Al-Alsun students enjoy great flexibility in the labor market and can meet the needs of various sectors through their study of languages, noting that the college administration is working to open many horizons for its students through the activities of the community service and environmental development sector. For students to explore their abilities and talents before graduation.

         
   
         

While Mr. Ahmed Moawad, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Masaa newspaper, during the symposium on college students’ introduction to the field of journalism, reviewing the various sections in journalistic work, which includes several diverse sections that work in harmony to issue journalistic work to the public, stressing that journalistic work is a sublime message through which a journalist can be a mirror. For the ruler and for the people; Through the media, the journalist conveys the decisions of the ruler to the people. He also reflects to the ruler the opinion of the people and their requirements in the present and future. Thus, the press is the main tool in equalizing the balance between the government and its people, and it can shape the conscience of the people according to the requirements of the different stages and according to the needs of the state and support its governments in making decisions. Steps and procedures that will develop life and raise the value of the citizen in advancing the wheel of development throughout the ages.

Haditha went on to point out that journalism and media translation have a very important role in conveying political, cultural and economic events through translations of news from different nations into the Arabic language and informing public opinion of the trends and opinions of the people around us. Likewise, journalistic translation is one of the most important means through which the state can address public opinion to foreign countries and export clear mental images of reactions to the issues raised at any time.

         
   
         

He stressed that an experienced journalist must adhere to objectivity and convey the event in a neutral manner, devoid of his personal opinion, and stressed that the journalistic field is open to graduates of Al-Alsun in their various linguistic specializations, especially since the Egyptian state has recently become greatly interested in the political changes that the world is witnessing and public opinion has become aware of them. The Egyptian people have a major role in moving many matters in the region forward and exporting the people’s position to the world in support of their government’s decisions on important and pivotal issues in the Middle East.

Haditha continued, stressing that Al-Alsun graduates are distinguished, in addition to their mastery of the languages they studied in the college’s corridors, by their complete mastery of the Arabic language. Mastery of the rules of the Arabic language is the main gateway to transmitting translations accurately that serves the main goal of exchanging public opinion with countries of the world and addressing them in their languages, as well as translations of the opinions of their governments and peoples to know the trends of different peoples.

The symposium witnessed great interaction from the students, and they raised many questions about journalistic work, its mechanisms, methods of training and joining the work in it. The talk touched on how to compose a news story, how to write the title and body, and reviewed a number of journalist skills, drafting news and its types, and the difference between news, article, and opinion.
