Higher Education: The Supreme Council for Education and Student Affairs holds its periodic meeting

The Supreme Council for Education and Student Affairs, chaired by Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Acting Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, held its periodic meeting, in the presence of Vice Presidents of Universities for Education and Student Affairs, at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of Universities, Cairo University.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Council congratulated Dr. Mustafa Refaat, for the confidence of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for assuming the position of Acting Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, wishing him continued success.

The Council also thanked Dr. Muhammad Latif for his fruitful efforts during his tenure as Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, wishing him continued success in his new position.

In his speech, Dr. Mostafa Refaat expressed his pleasure in cooperation with the members of the Council, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation and integration between the Secretariat of the Council and the Egyptian universities, to achieve the desired development in the system of higher education and scientific research.

The Council listened to a presentation by Dr. Al-Hilali El-Sherbiny, former Minister of Education and Technical Education and Chairman of the Higher Executive Committee for Literacy, in which he presented the work of the committee to follow up the implementation of the Egyptian public universities for their role in the national project for literacy since its formation in August 2019 to its date, and presented the universities’ achievements from the session From October 2019 to July 2022, he also addressed the universities’ contribution to eradicating illiteracy for nearly a million citizens, since universities were assigned this file in 2019, as universities believe in their societal role towards societal issues that achieve Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The Council reviewed reports submitted by universities on student activities, public awareness development activities, and summit activities that were held with the participation of universities.

The Council affirmed the continued interest in awareness-raising activities aimed at developing university youth’s awareness of all the challenges facing the country, and student activities at the university level, in which students from various universities participate at the level of the Republic, given their great importance to students, as student activities are considered one of the most important foundations of the educational system in universities, which aim to refine the students’ personality and work to provide them with the skills and capabilities that enable them to be creative and enhance their ability to assume responsibility, in addition to instilling the value of volunteer work and strengthening teamwork.

The council was informed of Fayoum University's readiness to organize the first national festival for Egyptian university poets, to be held during the second semester of the current academic year 2022/2023, as well as the holding of the ninth summit meeting for ideal male and female students at the level of Egyptian universities, and the effectiveness of goodwill ambassadors, during the first half of May 2023.
