A free workshop on simultaneous translation between Persian and Arabic at the Faculty of Arts

The Alumni Follow-up Unit at the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University organized a free workshop entitled "Simultaneous Translation between Persian and Arabic" for students and graduates of the Department of Oriental Languages ​​and Literature on Thursday, 24/11/ 2022, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel, Acting Dean of the Faculty, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rasha El Didi, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Iman Taha, Director of the Faculty of Graduates Follow-up Unit, and Coordinator of the Ain Shams University Alumni Association for the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Hamed, Head of the Department of Oriental Languages ​​and Literature, and the workshop was presented by Prof. Dr. Saeed Al-Sabbagh is a Professor of Contemporary Iranian Studies at the Department.

         
   
         

This comes within the framework of the Faculty of Arts' endeavor to qualify students and graduates, free of charge, for the labor market, which requires mastery of different languages and proficiency in translation from different languages into Arabic and vice versa, within the framework of expanding scientific and cultural exchange at all levels.

The translation is considered a dynamic process that expresses a mental and cognitive activity that aims to put an equivalent meaning to the text in one language (the source text) and to produce another new text in another language that is equivalent to it (the target text).

The workshop included the following topics:

What are translation, its techniques and principles, and the factors influencing it, whether in terms of the difference in style or tone of the source text and the target text, or the difference in language rules: grammatical rules, lexical meanings, etc., or the rules of communication and communication between the source language and the target language, and the environment and traditions of the context of the source text, and semantic meaning.

It also reviewed the nature of interpretation, its types and characteristics, the characteristics of the interpreter, and the principles of interpretation, in addition to clarifying the importance of translation between Persian and Arabic and its modern techniques, the challenges facing the interpreter, and how to overcome these challenges.

The workshop included a review of audio and video materials for multiple linguistic levels, how to translate them from Persian into Arabic, and other materials and how to translate them from Arabic into Persian.

And Mrs. Nermin Gerges, Mrs. Heba Waheed, the two officials of the unit monitored the reactions to the workshop through a questionnaire that was distributed to the attendees, and it was found that they are in great need of such a useful type of free workshop, demanding more of these training workshops, and they will also be given certificates of attendance.
