Under the auspices of Prof‎. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Yassin El-Shazly, Vice Dean of Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, and Dr. Ahmed Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation Office, the Faculty of Law, in cooperation with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), is organizing a workshop on “Reforming the Investor-State Dispute Settlement System and its Implications for Egypt and Countries” other developing countries in the region on Tuesday, the eleventh of October

This partnership is the first of its kind at the level of Egyptian and Arab universities to host the activities of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) with the aim of introducing the Commission's efforts in the field of legislative reform in a number of fields of international trade law, and encouraging countries to adopt them.

This event aims to raise awareness of the basic principles of international investment law and define the framework for settling disputes between investors and countries at the international level, as well as reviewing the efforts of the Egyptian government in order to secure an effective mechanism for settling disputes for foreign investors, which will be reflected in the increase in foreign direct investments.

Among the speakers at this event are: Mrs. Anna Jobin-Britt, Secretary of UNCITRAL and Director of the International Trade Law Section at the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, Counsellor Dr. Hossam Sadek, Assistant Minister of Justice for International and Cultural Cooperation, Counsellor Hani Fathy Georgy, President of the Appeals Court of the North Cairo Court, Mrs. Fatima Khalifa, Legal Adviser In the Office of Legal Affairs - International Trade Law Section - UNCITRAL Secretariat, Mr. Youssef El-Samman, partner in the office of Zulficar & Associates, Mr. Mohamed Salam, consultant in the office of Matouk, Bassiouni & Associates

A number of academics, practitioners, researchers and government officials will also participate in this event to discuss the efficiency of the investor-state dispute settlement system.
