During his visit to the Jenner Institute at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, Prof. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, met with Dr. Sir Adrian Hill, Director of the Edward Jenner Institute for Vaccine Development Research at Oxford University, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Salman, a researcher at the Institute and a member of the research team for the development of the Oxford vaccine (AstraZeneca) and Professor Ain Shams University, and Dr. Rasha Kamal, Egyptian Cultural Attaché in Britain.

During the meeting, they discussed ways of joint cooperation in the field of medical research and the development of vaccines against infectious diseases, cancerous diseases and immunotherapies.

The meeting also included a discussion of coordination to expand the scope of academic and research cooperation and student exchange between the two universities in these fields to aspire to make Ain Shams University one of the leading and most advanced regional centers in the field of medical research specialized in developing vaccines and treating tumors with the latest international technologies in these fields, which It will have a significant and direct positive impact on public health and Egypt's leading regional role in global efforts to combat diseases and epidemics, in addition to providing a proactive ability and preparedness for any future epidemics.

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini said "It became clear after the pandemic that mastering this type of scientific research and the independent ability to develop and produce vaccines has become an urgent and essential necessity for life in which more investment must be made, especially after the world went through the harsh experience of the Covid-19 epidemic during the past two years. The occurrence of other epidemics in the future may be more deadly, which makes the research of developing and manufacturing vaccines one of the basic and most effective tools to control epidemics as a necessity to preserve lives and public and psychological health in addition to all aspects of basic life from the economy and basic social and life activities.
