The latest archaeological discoveries... A lecture at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization for students of the Faculty of Archeology

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat received NMEC under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty, Dean of the Faculty of Archeology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum Authority, Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and students of the Faculty of Archeology, Ain Shams University, in a scientific and cultural meeting on Saturday, 11/12/2021 AD.

Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Al-Damaty said that this visit comes within the framework of field training and practical visits for the students, and within the framework of its administration’s adoption of modern methods of teaching and learning, making room for non-traditional methods far from the traditional lecture, enhancing learning skills and introducing students to the nature of workflow in museums and archaeological and heritage sites related to their education. Providing them with applied and practical skills that are directly or indirectly related to the labor market.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum Authority, started the meeting by welcoming the students and guests of the faculty, supporting staff and administrators, then gave an overview of the museum and its establishment.

         
   
         

His Excellency stressed that this meeting comes within the cultural program organized by the museum, with the application of all precautionary measures and health safety controls, and within the framework of the visits received by the museum since its opening and its reception of royal mummies in a majestic procession from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

This was followed by a lecture by Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, on the latest archaeological discoveries in Egypt, during which he reviewed the efforts of the ministry and its Egyptian workers in discovering Al-Asasif cache of coffins dating back to the era of the 21st Dynasty, animal tombs in the Saqqara region, and the coffins that were discovered dating back to the Greek and Roman eras in Al-Gharefa area, near Tuna El-Gebel area in Minya.

His Excellency touched on the achievements of the Egyptian restoration work teams in collecting and restoring the statues of King Ramses II standing in front of the Luxor Temple, a project that took more than four years, and the connection of this work with the Ministry's efforts to reveal through the processions "The Way of Rams" between Luxor Temple and Karnak Temples, which It was recently inaugurated in the presence of His Excellency the President of the Republic. His Excellency did not neglect the collection and restoration of 3 obelisks in the Tanis "San El-Hajar" area, and one of them was transferred to and set up in Tahrir Square, and the rest was transferred to the Museum of Egypt's Capitals in the Administrative Capital.

Prof. Dr. Hossam Tantawi, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs added that Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim accompanied the guests to view an exhibition entitled "Eternal Egypt" by the artist Dr. Farid Fadel, which includes a number of paintings that reflect his fondness for the ancient Egyptian civilization in its various eras, including three paintings inspired by collectibles displayed in the central hall of the museum, which is hosted by the Museum Civilization as a cultural, scientific, civilized institution that exercises its societal role to advance the various segments of society intellectually, culturally and artistically.

Dr. Eman Naseer, Director of the Field and Practical Training Unit, indicated that the meeting included several rounds that preceded and followed the lecture for the students after dividing them into groups that included a visit to the central exhibition hall and the mummies hall. On the activities and services provided in the museum, pointing out that the museum is not only halls for displaying artifacts, but it is a cultural and civilized beacon.
