The Faculty of Engineering Student Team Wins First Place in the Best Graduation Project Competition at Cairo Water Week

A team of students from the Water Engineering and Hydraulic Structures Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, won first place in the Best Graduation Project Competition, held on the sidelines of the international Cairo Water Week conference under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The competition brought together 41 teams representing various faculties at Egyptian public and private universities.

The team's participation took place under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University.

The winning project, entitled "Integrated Sustainable Development of the Marsa Alam Area on the Red Sea," combined multiple engineering disciplines to address existing challenges in the area and ensure the sustainability of its development projects.

The project's proposals included:

The construction of the largest artificial lake in the Middle East, the establishment of a new international port and marina, the design of water supply networks to serve development projects, and the implementation of flood protection measures across the entire Marsa Alam area. The project also proposed providing renewable energy sources for development projects, contributing to reducing their carbon footprint.

Environmental preservation was taken into consideration throughout all stages of the project, with particular emphasis on protecting the area's unique natural environment.

The students delivered an outstanding presentation of their project, which received widespread praise from attendees and the judging panel, chaired by H.E. Dr. Hany Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Prof. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

An agreement was reached with the relevant officials for the students to present their project to Dr. Walid Abdel Azim El-Barqi, Governor of the Red Sea, soon, enabling the governorate to benefit from the project in developing the Marsa Alam area.
