An introductory seminar for the scholarship program offered by the University of Pennsylvania and Sawiris Foundation in the Faculty of Engineering

Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini, organized an introductory seminar for the scholarship program offered by the University of Pennsylvania and Sawiris Foundation for the academic year 2021-2022, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, and Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Education and Student Affairs, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Vice Dean of Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Diaa Khalil, Professor of Communications and Electronics Department, and General Supervisor of Innovation and Creativity at the University, Dr. Engy El Damak, assistant professor at the Department of Communications and Electronics, and Coordinator of International Agreements at the faculty, Dr. Noha Gamal, Assistant Professor, Department of Urban Design and Planning, and Student Exchange Coordinator at the Faculty, Mrs. Heba Iskandar, Director of Community Development and Development at Sawiris Foundation and Orascom Company, Mrs. Mays Abu Hijab, Director of the Education and Scholarships Sector at Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, Mrs. Mays Abu Hijab, Heads of the Departments of Architecture and Urban Design, Prof. Dr.. Shaima Mohamed Kamel and Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, respectively, as well as the architectural engineering program coordinators, Prof. Dr. Hanan Sabry, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sami, Prof. Dr. Amr Safwat, Head of the Department of Communications Engineering, along with representatives from the University of Pennsylvania Online. Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini said that the faculty aims to open new horizons for our students to obtain various information, experiences and cultures

         
   
         

He also thanked Sawiris Foundation for its efforts in supporting the educational process in various Egyptian universities.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Vice Dean of Education and Student Affairs, explained that the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University is one of the oldest engineering faculties in the Middle East, stressing that the faculty’s administration always seeks to reach universality by exchanging experiences with various engineering faculties around the world.

as Prof. Dr. Diaa Khalil stressed that the scholarship is a great opportunity to gain skills, experience and openness to different cultures, and encouraged students to apply for all the opportunities available to them.

Dr. Engy Damak, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the faculty, explained that the grant to travel for the academic year 2022-2023 is for five students in the third year of the bachelor’s stage in the departments of Communications, Electronics and Architectural Engineering (students in specialized programs to spend a full academic year at the University of Pennsylvania UPenn includes travel costs, study, accommodation and living).

The symposium witnessed a presentation of the advantages and conditions of the grant and the way to apply for it. The University of Pennsylvania is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States of America. League Ivy UPenn University ranked 13th in each of the US News & World Report 2022 rankings and the 2022 QS World Report for the best international universities, and seventh in the United States of America.

Dr. Noha Gamal Saeed added that Sawiris scholarship is considered a full scholarship - covering tuition fees, travel, housing, health insurance and a living stipend, and the student is selected based on their advantages demonstrated through academic excellence and their non-academic outside activities

The faculty also aims to increase the number of scholarships after the first session and to open the door for progress to other specialized departments to apply for scholarships in future sessions.
