A Clarification Statement Issued by Ain Shams University Regarding the Health Condition of a Patient at the University Specialized Hospital

In line with its commitment to transparency and clarifying the facts, and in response to reports concerning the health condition of a patient at Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital, as well as allegations of a medical error following the administration of an antibiotic injection, Ain Shams University confirms that the patient is alive and continues to receive the necessary medical care in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to the medical report issued on October 14, 2026, the patient was admitted to the hospital with a kidney stone in his left kidney. He was prepared for the necessary surgical intervention and underwent a procedure to fragment the stone using flexible ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy, along with the placement of a stent in the left ureter using an endoscope.

The surgical procedure was completed smoothly, with no complications during the operation. The patient's vital signs remained stable following surgery, and the possibility of discharging him from the hospital was discussed, subject to the completion of medical follow-up.

However, before discussions regarding his discharge could be concluded, the patient experienced a sudden and severe rise in blood pressure, requiring urgent medical intervention. According to the medical report, the patient had received a 2-gram dose of the antibiotic Rocephin, diluted in 20 ml of saline solution and administered by direct injection through an intravenous cannula. He subsequently developed symptoms that prompted the medical team to treat the condition as a suspected anaphylactic shock.

The Rapid Response Team was immediately summoned, and the necessary emergency measures were taken in accordance with established medical protocols. Following cardiac arrest, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was initiated, and the medical team successfully restored the patient's pulse.

Due to the resulting medical complications, the patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit and placed on mechanical ventilation, with continuous close medical monitoring. The report indicated that his heart had resumed normal function without the need for cardiac support medications. However, the patient developed pulmonary complications resulting from oxygen deprivation during cardiac arrest. He remains under intensive medical care, with no improvement in his level of consciousness as of the date of the report.

Ain Shams University confirms that it conducted an investigation and reviewed the medical procedures undertaken in managing the case. According to the findings, the review concluded that the medical team had followed appropriate medical procedures and that no violations or irregularities in the medical care provided to the patient had been established.

The University further clarifies that severe anaphylactic shock is a recognized medical complication that may occur suddenly following the administration of certain medications, even when proper medical procedures are strictly followed. Such a reaction does not, in itself, constitute evidence of the administration of an incorrect medication or the occurrence of a medical error.

The University emphasizes that patient safety and the preservation of human life remain among its highest priorities. All complaints and concerns relating to medical services are subject to examination and review by the relevant authorities, with full respect for the rights of patients and their families.

Ain Shams University reaffirms its commitment to providing the patient with all necessary medical care and closely monitoring his health condition, while extending its sincere wishes for a swift recovery.
