The event also featured the participation of Italian expert Alessandro Giovenco, a specialist in clinical oncology in Italy, as part of efforts to exchange scientific expertise and explore the latest advances in molecular cancer diagnostics.

The inauguration program included a series of specialized scientific lectures highlighting the latest clinical applications of molecular diagnostics. Prof. Hesham El-Wakeel discussed the clinical significance of EGFR mutations in lung cancer, while Alessandro Giovenco explored approaches to improving and streamlining molecular diagnostic procedures in oncology.

Prof. Lobna Ezz El-Arab delivered a lecture on the clinical applications of IDH testing in the era of personalized medicine, while Prof. Mohamed Sabry El-Qady highlighted the role of artificial intelligence and molecular biomarkers in breast cancer diagnosis.

The inauguration of the unit marks a significant addition to the diagnostic and research capabilities of the Department of Anatomical Pathology. By employing advanced technologies, including Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), the unit will help identify tumor-associated molecular markers and alterations, supporting the selection of targeted therapies tailored to the biological characteristics of individual cases. It will also strengthen the integration of clinical diagnostics and scientific research. This initiative aligns with the ongoing efforts of Ain Shams University and its Faculty of Medicine to enhance diagnostic and research capabilities, keep pace with the latest medical technologies, advance precision medicine, and deliver more accurate and specialized healthcare to patients.

At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Manal El-Mahdy and the Department of Anatomical Pathology team expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the faculty and university hospital leadership, professors, experts, guests, and partners for their valuable contributions to the success of this scientific event. They also expressed hope that the new unit would mark the beginning of a new phase in advancing molecular diagnostic services, strengthening scientific research, and improving the quality of patient care.
