Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University and Acting President of Ain Shams National University, attended the orientation and welcome meetings for the first cohort of students at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams National University. The meeting was organized by the faculty to welcome the new students and introduce them to the academic program and the education and training system offered by the University.

The event was attended by Prof. Mohamed Saleheen, Vice President of Ain Shams National University for Academic Affairs, as well as the Vice Deans of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University: Prof. Hala Suweed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Rania Salah, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Tarek Youssef, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and Prof. Rola Farid, Director of the Medical Program at Ain Shams National University.

Also attending were Dr. Noha Salem, Assistant Director of the Grants and Special Programs Department at the School of Continuing Education at the American University in Cairo; Mohamed El-Khatib, Acting Secretary-General of Ain Shams National University; along with a number of faculty members participating in the University’s medical program, as well as new students and their parents.

In his address, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen welcomed the first cohort of students at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams National University. He emphasized that efficiency and effectiveness are key pillars of the educational process at Ain Shams University, noting that the decision to incorporate the medical sector into the academic programs of Ain Shams National University is built upon the long-standing legacy of Ain Shams University and its Faculty of Medicine, which spans more than a century.

He explained that joining the medical program at Ain Shams marks the first step in a distinguished academic and professional journey within an educational system that combines tradition with innovation. He also highlighted several prominent professors and graduates of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University who have earned widespread recognition and distinguished reputations both locally and internationally.

The University President stressed that faculty staff represent the cornerstone of the educational process. He explained that the University’s mission extends beyond providing academic knowledge to shaping students’ personalities, developing their skills, and preparing them for professional life. He also underscored the importance of effective human communication between physicians, patients, and their families as a fundamental component of successful medical practice.

Continuing his remarks to the students, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen emphasized that medicine is one of the professions with the greatest impact on human life. He noted that Ain Shams University Hospitals, which will provide training opportunities for students enrolled in the program, receive approximately 10,000 to 12,000 patients every day, comprise nearly 3,000 rooms, and perform around 30,000 surgical procedures annually, providing students with a rich and diverse clinical training environment.

For his part, Prof. Mohamed Saleheen, Vice President of Ain Shams National University for Academic Affairs, expressed his pride in the distinguished standing and reputation enjoyed by graduates of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University both locally and internationally. He also thanked Prof. Maha Zakaria, former Director and founder of the Medical Program at Ain Shams National University and congratulated the new students on joining the program.

In her address, Prof. Rola Farid, Director of the Medical Program at Ain Shams National University, emphasized that studying medicine is not merely about acquiring medical knowledge and skills, but is first and foremost a humanitarian mission. Addressing the students, she urged them to “Be human,” stressing that the University is committed to providing an integrated educational system that combines academic knowledge, character building, and skills development, with the ultimate goal of graduating professionals capable of competing globally.

Dr. Noha Salem, Assistant Director of the Grants and Special Programs Department at the School of Continuing Education at the American University in Cairo, also reviewed areas of cooperation between Ain Shams National University and the American University in Cairo. She highlighted the introduction of a healthcare entrepreneurship program, the first of its kind in the region, which is being integrated as a core component of the medical program.

She explained that the program aims to equip students with leadership and entrepreneurial skills in line with the requirements of the modern labor market. The program extends throughout their years of study, comprising a total of 125 training hours, thereby contributing to the preparation of successful physicians who possess leadership and entrepreneurial capabilities alongside their medical competence. She emphasized that the work being undertaken today is helping shape the future.

The meeting concluded with commemorative photographs featuring the University President, the event organizers, faculty members, and new students, in an atmosphere that reflected a warm welcome for the first cohort of students at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams National University, and the University’s commitment to providing a strong start to their academic and professional journey.
