Ain Shams University Statement on the Development of Green Spaces at the Faculty of Business
In response to reports claiming that the Faculty of Business at Ain Shams University was “slaughtering trees” on campus, the University clarifies that this description does not reflect the nature of the work underway. The work forms part of an integrated project to develop and modernize the faculty’s green spaces and improve the overall environment.
The current work aims to rehabilitate and landscape green areas, improve the soil and planting beds, and remove weeds, agricultural waste, and damaged plants. This will pave the way for new landscaping designs and enhance the quality and condition of the vegetation across the faculty, not eliminating or reducing it.
The University emphasizes that the development work follows a plan to preserve and expand green spaces, in line with Egypt’s commitment to environmental sustainability, increasing green areas, and improving environmental quality. Ain Shams University is committed to applying these principles across its facilities and faculties.
Accordingly, portraying the rehabilitation and development work as “slaughtering trees” does not provide a complete picture of what is taking place at the faculty. Assessing an integrated development project during the implementation phase, while waste is being cleared and initial preparations are underway, but before planting and landscaping are complete, may lead to conclusions that do not reflect the project’s final appearance or objectives.
Ain Shams University fully respects the role of the media in monitoring developments and offering constructive criticism. At the same time, it urges media outlets to verify information and consult the University’s official sources before publishing reports about development work at its facilities, to ensure the public receives a complete and accurate account.
The University reiterates that protecting the environment and preserving green spaces are not merely aesthetic goals; they are an integral part of its institutional responsibility and commitment to sustainable development. The completed work at the Faculty of Business will clearly reflect this commitment.
