The Faculty of Medicine Organizes an Awareness Seminar on the World Alzheimer’s Day
As part of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University’s commitment to promoting health awareness, strengthening its community role, supporting awareness efforts related to the health of older adults, and enhancing their quality of life, the Faculty of Medicine, in cooperation with the Department of Geriatrics and Gerontology, organized an awareness seminar on the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals.

The seminar was attended by Prof. Hala Samir Suweed, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, along with a distinguished group of professors of geriatric medicine, teaching assistants, faculty staff, and administrators.
The seminar addressed a number of awareness topics related to Alzheimer’s disease and memory impairment. Prof. Mohamed Shawky Khater, Professor of Geriatric Medicine, introduced the “Memory Protection” program and reviewed the stages of Alzheimer’s disease progression, as well as the key factors associated with memory impairment and cognitive decline.

Dr. Heba Tawfik, Assistant Professor of Geriatric Medicine, discussed ways to stimulate and protect memory and enhance brain function through healthy habits and daily practices. She highlighted the importance of regular physical activity and healthy, deep sleep, in addition to identifying factors that may affect memory efficiency and cognitive abilities.
The seminar also included memory tests aimed at raising awareness of the importance of early detection and monitoring indicators related to cognitive abilities. Health guidance was also provided on ways to maintain brain and memory health and adopt a healthy lifestyle that can help reduce risk factors associated with cognitive decline.
The event emphasized the importance of promoting health awareness among members of the community, particularly regarding the health of older adults, and raising awareness of ways to preserve cognitive abilities and memory. Such efforts support the prevention of risk factors associated with cognitive decline and contribute to improving quality of life.
