In a significant step reflecting the ongoing development of the university healthcare system, Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, and Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, inaugurated a package of major medical and development projects at Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital. These projects, representing an investment of approximately 210 million Egyptian pounds, included the modernization of the endoscopy unit, the second phase of the outpatient clinic development, the upgrade of the patient waiting and admission area, and the completion of the hospital's overall grounds development.

These inaugurations underscore Ain Shams University's commitment to its vision of modernizing its university hospitals and developing their infrastructure according to the latest international medical standards. This will directly enhance the quality of treatment services, expedite healthcare delivery, and improve the patient experience.

The events were attended by Prof. Ahmed Zaki Badr, former Minister of Local Development and former President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Prof. Tariq Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, Prof. Essam Fakhry, Assistant Executive Director of Hospitals, Prof. Hisham Anwar, Director of Ain Shams Specialized Hospital, Prof. Haitham Abdel-Azim, Deputy Director of the Hospital, Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Razek, Medical Director of the Hospital, in addition to a group of leaders and professors of Ain Shams University Hospitals.

Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din affirmed that the achievements at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital are the fruit of continuous teamwork. He pointed out that the endoscopy unit is the first fiber optic endoscopy unit of its kind in Egypt and the region. He also praised the significant development witnessed in the intensive care, cardiac, and respiratory care units, which have contributed to saving thousands of patients. He emphasized that the hospital represents one of the leading medical and educational institutions that has produced generations of distinguished nursing staff.

For his part, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen confirmed that today's openings represent a new milestone in the university's comprehensive plan to modernize its hospitals. He explained that the development is not limited to buildings or equipment, but rather aims to build an integrated healthcare system that prioritizes the patient and relies on the latest medical technologies, thus enhancing the position of Ain Shams University Hospitals as one of the largest treatment, educational, and research institutions in Egypt and the region.

The President of University pointed out that true investment lies in human capital, emphasizing that hospital development is a key pillar in supporting the new republic and achieving sustainable development. This is accomplished by providing healthcare services befitting the Egyptian citizen, and a safe and advanced treatment environment that meets international standards.

He explained that the opening of the new endoscopy unit, the completion of the outpatient clinic development, and the modernization of the hospital grounds are part of a comprehensive plan to enhance the operational efficiency of university hospitals, improve the quality of services provided, reduce patient waiting times, and improve diagnostic and treatment efficiency.

He also stressed that these achievements are the fruit of teamwork, expressing his gratitude to all staff members at Ain Shams University Hospitals, including faculty, physicians, nurses, technicians, and administrators. He affirmed that qualified human resources are the cornerstone of any success, and that the latest equipment and technologies can only achieve their goals with competent personnel capable of utilizing them to serve patients, advance scientific research, and promote medical education.

Prof. Ali El-Anwar confirmed that the three inaugurated projects primarily aim to improve the patient experience and alleviate the suffering of those visiting the hospital, while continuing to expand the introduction of the latest treatment technologies.

Prof. Tarek Youssef explained that the development included infrastructure, facilities, drainage networks, rehabilitation of the general site, and the creation of a separate visitor entrance, all of which contribute to improving patient and visitor flow. He noted that the Engineering Consulting Office at Ain Shams University and professors from the Faculty of Engineering played a key role in implementing these projects.

Prof. Hesham Anwar revealed that the total cost of the projects amounted to approximately 210 million Egyptian pounds, with 100 million pounds allocated to developing the endoscopy unit, 30 million pounds to developing the outpatient clinic area, and 80 million pounds to improving the hospital's general site.

He added that the new endoscopy unit includes the latest systems for gastrointestinal, thoracic, and biliary endoscopes, ultrasound endoscopes, and bronchoscopes with biopsy capabilities. It receives approximately 5,000 patients annually, while the upgraded outpatient clinic area serves nearly 1,000 patients daily, with services continuing uninterrupted throughout the construction period.

During the inauguration, Prof. Haitham Abdel-Azim presented a short documentary showcasing the development phases, along with a presentation on the establishment of the hospital's first robotic surgery unit, which successfully performed five joint surgeries with outstanding medical results in just ten days.

Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Razek affirmed that the robotic surgery unit represents a qualitative leap in medical services. Initially focused on orthopedic, joint, and urological surgeries, it is currently expanding to include neurosurgery, making Ain Shams Specialized Hospital the first center in the region to possess three surgical robots and establishing the first integrated robotic surgery unit in Egypt encompassing various surgical specialties.
