Ain Shams University Invites Faculty Staff, Teaching Assistants, and Researchers to Apply for the UNESCO–Al Fozan International Prize for Young Scientists (2027)

As part of Ain Shams University's commitment to supporting and promoting academic excellence and encouraging faculty staff and researchers to actively engage in prestigious international research awards, and under the patronage of Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, the University announces—based on the notification received from the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of Universities—the opening of nominations for the UNESCO–Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) 2027.

The Prize is among the world's leading international awards in the field of STEM. It is presented biennially to five outstanding young scientists from around the world in recognition of their pioneering scientific contributions and their significant role in advancing innovation and addressing contemporary global challenges.

Prize Value

Each of the five laureates will receive:

A cash award of USD 50,000.

A commemorative medal and an official certificate from UNESCO.

Prize Objectives

Support and promote scientific research and education in STEM disciplines.

Contribute to developing a new generation of researchers capable of advancing sustainable development.

Promote gender equality and encourage women's participation in scientific fields.

Ensure balanced geographical representation by recognizing candidates from different world regions, including Africa and the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

Be under the age of 40 at the time of nomination.

Demonstrate an outstanding record of achievements in one or more of the following:

Scientific research, including emerging technologies.

Education, knowledge dissemination, and innovation.

International or regional cooperation in STEM fields.

The Prize strongly encourages the nomination of women scientists.

Documents Required by the Awarding Organization

An official nomination letter from the candidate's employing institution, duly signed and stamped.

A curriculum vitae (maximum 2–3 pages).

A summary of the nominee's work, publications, and supporting documentation.

A statement describing the nominee's contribution to the Prize objectives.

A list of the nominee's most significant scientific publications, accompanied by a brief description of their impact.

An official nomination letter endorsed by the faculty.

Candidate information (full name, position, email address, and WhatsApp number).

An up-to-date employment status statement.

A statement justifying the nomination.

Deadlines

Deadline for receiving nominations from faculties: 20 October 2026.

Deadline for submission to the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO: 15 November 2026.
