Under the auspices of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Mohamed Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Osama Mansour, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Graduate Studies and Research, the Postgraduate Studies Sector at Ain Shams University is organizing a scientific lecture entitled "Mycetoma Disease: Challenges and Solutions" to present details about the disease, its spread, and the efforts made to address Mycetoma disease in Sudan and around the world, on Sunday 11 /12/2022 at 12:30 noon in the El-Mahlawy Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University.

This lecture comes within the university's interest in presenting all that is new in medical research and health care as one of the leading universities in the medical field at the local and international levels, and in order to achieve the vision of the Egyptian state under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic in strengthening the health care system and medical services in Egypt.

Mycetoma is a chronic infectious disease that gradually affects the subcutaneous tissue and spreads to affect the skin, deeper tissues and bones. Mycetoma can be caused by different types of bacteria or fungi. The disease is endemic in different parts of Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, although the burden is higher. The global incidence of the disease is still not fully known.

This lecture is presented by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Fahal, Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum and Director of the Mycetoma Center, one of the specialized centers for the treatment of mycetoma globally. Dr. Fahal made international efforts that contributed to a major scientific leap for the Mycetoma Center to be one of the global beacons in the treatment of this dangerous disease. Dr. Fahal made great efforts to include this disease as one of the neglected tropical diseases, as it was included in this list of the World Health Organization in the year 2014. Dr. Fahal received the Donald Mackay Medal from the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), a knighthood from the French government for achievements Distinguished Academy from the Republic of France, Order of Merit from the Republic of Italy, Fellowship of the Third World Academy of Sciences, and the Gold Medal of the State of Sudan for Excellence and Promotion of Scientific Innovation in Medicine. He was also awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Faculty of Physicians, London, for his distinguished achievements in medical education, education and scientific research.

The lecture is organized by Prof. Osama Mansour, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Samia Abda Gerges, Deputy Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, Prof. Sherif Zaki, Assistant Professor of Medical Mycology at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, and Ambassador of the Gavi Organization for Fungal Infection Control in Egypt, and Dr. Abdullah Sami, general supervisor of the university's envoys' care office.
