Chemistry of petroleum fields and building materials… A workshop at the Faculty of Engineering

For the tenth year in a row, the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, held a workshop entitled (Petroleum Fields Chemistry and Building Materials), in partnership with the International Organization for the Dry Mixed Concrete Industry in the Middle East (MEDMA), and headed by Prof. Dr. Ghada Bassiouni, Professor of Chemistry at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams and member of the office Executive Director of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), in the presence of more than 40 representatives of more than 7 companies interested in the field of building materials chemistry.

The workshop is sponsored by major international companies, Wacker, M-Tec and Evonic.

The opening and welcoming speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Ghada Bassiouni, head of the workshop, who praised the effective role of the workshop in modern topics in the field of petroleum chemistry and construction and the extent to which scientific research can be applied effectively.

Prof. Dr. Amr Shaat, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabbagh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Community and Environmental Affairs, praised the role of the workshop, which was held for the tenth time in a row, in developing the scientific and technological skills of the target groups with the use of modern technological applications in the various fields of petroleum chemistry and building materials chemistry.

The workshop was held in the presence of a group of scientists, faculty members and invited people from the academic, executive, applied and industrial circles to communicate the latest developments in the role of science and engineering in contributing to achieving sustainable development goals, and the strategies that have reached the world in building chemistry.

The workshop discussed several basic themes that contribute effectively to urban development, as well as issues related to sustainability and the use of modern technologies in building materials and petroleum chemistry. The first session included a discussion of the basics of oil field chemistry from the perspective of green chemistry, while the second session included many different topics about innovative solutions for construction chemistry. Where he dealt with innovative chemical solutions to increase the durability of concrete and long-term durability, and the themes of the second session ended with a discussion of modern applications and the use of the latest developments in the 3D printing of dry concrete, which was discussed by Ferdinand Leopolder, President of the International Organization for the Dry Mixed Concrete Industry in the Middle East (MEDMA).

The third session of the workshop dealt with the axis of interfacial chemistry used in the dry mixing process
