The Papyrus Studies and Inscriptions Center, which was established in 1980, is one of the specialized research centers at Ain Shams University in Cairo. The focus of the center is mainly on the Egyptian textual media of papyrus, inscriptions, and others, dating back to ancient and medieval times. Therefore, this interest includes writings and languages of these media from hieroglyphs, hieratic, demotic, Coptic, Greek, Latin, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Arabic.

Center Objectives

* Paying attention to papyrus documents as an important element in the cultural heritage, as it is considered a major source of information that highlights the history of Egyptian civilization and humanity in general.
* Statistics and photocopy of Al-Barada and Al-Istraka documents, whether published or not.
* Verifying and publishing papyrus documents scientifically.
* Conducting research and studies based on papyrus documents.
* Forming a team of researchers trained to read and verify texts.
* Holding global and local conferences and seminars related to papyrus science.
* Encouraging a new generation to specialize in papyrus science.
* Preparing a team of technicians in the field of restoration, maintenance, and imaging of papyrus.
* Preparing cultural seasons for a group of topics related to papyrus science.
* Preparing courses for the ancient languages ​​in which he was writing on papyrus papers, such as hieroglyphs, hieratic, Coptic, Aramaic, Hebrew, ancient Greek, modern and Latin, to help researchers who are interested in papyrus science.
* Preparing courses on how to read, prepare and publish papyrus documents, constraint, and inscriptions.
* Preparing a complete record of the published documents by registering and classifying papyrus collections, constraint, and inscriptions.

* Establish scientific and cultural relations in the field of papyrus sciences in the Middle East region.
* Establish a specialized library in the field of papyrus science and enriching it by providing it with different language periodicals on papyri published, whether in Egypt or abroad.

Specialized courses:
Preparing courses on how to read, prepare and publish papyrus documents, ostraca and inscriptions.
Preparing a complete record of published documents by registering and classifying papyrus, ostraca and inscriptions collections.
Extending channels with Al-Barda centers and institutes and academic research academies in various parts of the world and coordinating work with them.
Establishing a library specializing in the field of papyrus sciences and enriching it by providing it with different language periodicals on papyri published either in Egypt or abroad.
The center's current project is to classify its collections and prepare a multi-part catalog of its categories. It marks the establishment of a comprehensive catalog of Egyptian papyrus collections in Egypt and the world.

Drilling training courses:
Workshops plans related to the five activities of the center (ancient Egyptian / Arabic / Greek / Semitic / restoration) are being developed and their programs are developed in coordination with the lecturing professors.
Programs are set for scientific trips and field visits to archaeological sites that serve students and researchers in the specializations of history and archeology.

The Center for Papyrus Studies and Inscriptions Journal is published annually, and thirty-five issues have been published so far.

The Papyrus Center magazine is one of the first specialized magazines that the founder of the center, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Al-Muslimi for obtaining the IBAN since 1982

This year, it obtained the Electronic International Numbering (EIN), as well as making it available on the Egyptian Knowledge Bank EKB website
