Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Mamdouh Moawad, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and Prof. Seham Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research; and under the supervision and coordination of Prof. Noha El-Rafaei, Coordinator of the Children’s University at Ain Shams University, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University hosted students from the ninth and tenth cohorts of the Children’s University Program as part of the program’s activities held from August 16 to 27.

The visit was organized as part of Ain Shams University’s commitment to supporting young people and developing their scientific and creative abilities through an interactive educational experience that combines knowledge with practical application. It also contributes to raising children’s environmental awareness and introducing them to environmental and sustainability issues in a simple and innovative manner.

During the reception, Prof. Seham Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the participating children and extended her thanks to the University leadership and everyone involved in the Children’s University Program. She emphasized the faculty’s commitment to fostering environmental awareness among children and young people and connecting new generations with environmental and sustainability issues through interactive activities that combine science with practical application.

She also emphasized that the Children’s University participants represent the nation’s promising minds and potential for change, noting that every child has an idea, dream, or talent within them that can contribute to making a real difference in the future. She highlighted the faculty’s commitment to providing an inspiring educational environment that supports children’s potential and creativity.

The day’s activities included a field visit to the faculty, as well as demonstrations of practical recycling models and applications. This gave the students an opportunity to learn firsthand about practices related to environmental conservation, the utilization of waste, and its transformation into useful products and applications.

The activities also included an interactive lecture on environmental games, delivered by Prof. Reham Refaat, former Dean of the Faculty. The students were introduced to several games and activities that use play-based methods to promote environmental awareness and encourage children to think and participate.

The program also featured an activity on energy and the carbon footprint, presented by Associate Prof. Ahmed Maher, who introduced several concepts related to energy and the impact of different activities on the environment. The activity helped students understand the concept of the carbon footprint and the importance of rationalizing resource consumption.

Associate Prof. Amal Thabet addressed the topic of agriculture and environmental sustainability through an interactive activity in which the students learned about the importance of agriculture, its relationship to sustainability, and the conservation of natural resources.

Dr. Mahmoud Salah also presented an activity on the main sources of energy in food, aiming to introduce the students to the relationship between food and energy in a simple and age-appropriate manner.

The activities also included a practical agricultural workshop conducted by Eng. Hossam Hassan and Eng. Nada Fouad, which provided students with an opportunity to learn the basics of agriculture through hands-on participation in agricultural activities.

The visit also featured a variety of environmental workshops and activities implemented and supervised by Associate Prof. Hanan El-Sayed Zidan, Associate Prof. Nahla Salah, Associate Prof. Al-Shimaa Badr Amer, Associate Prof. Dina Gamal Zaki, Associate Prof. Walaa Othman, Assistant Lecturer Mona Reda Hafez, Assistant Lecturer Maysara Mostafa, Assistant Lecturer Nourhan Hussein, Assistant Lecturer Mona Emad, and Assistant Lecturer Albert Younes.

The environmental activities offered to the students included environmental drawing, environmental puzzles and games, activities related to energy conservation and sustainability, as well as various scientific and interactive activities and applications designed to simplify environmental and scientific concepts and encourage students to learn through practice and participation.

These activities provided the students with an opportunity to learn in an interactive environment that combines knowledge and experience, thereby reinforcing values related to environmental conservation, rational use of resources, recycling, and sustainability, while encouraging them to adopt positive environmental practices in their daily lives.

The “Children’s University” Program is an educational initiative implemented with funding from the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. It aims to develop children’s skills and discover their talents in the fields of science and innovation through educational and practical activities delivered by scientists, faculty members, and specialists from the University’s various faculties.

The program’s activities will continue from August 16 to 27, as part of Ain Shams University’s commitment to providing an inspiring educational environment that contributes to building a generation capable of innovation, creativity, and shaping the future.

The Grants and Projects Administration at Ain Shams University plays a pivotal role in coordinating and managing the logistics of the Children’s University Program activities. In cooperation with “Students for Egypt,” the administration’s team is committed to welcoming the children, monitoring their participation, and accompanying them throughout the day’s activities, thereby ensuring their safety and the smooth implementation of the activities in a safe and well-organized educational environment.
