During her visit to the Faculty of Engineering, she was accompanied by Prof. Marwa Khalifa, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, along with several faculty members and directors of the faculty’s research centers and laboratories.

The inspection tour covered a wide range of specialized laboratories and research centers, including the Optical Communications and Laser Laboratory, Microwave and Antennas Laboratory, Software Engineering and Microelectronics Laboratory, Combustion and Steam Laboratory, Thermal Machines Laboratory, Fuels and Oils Laboratory, Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics Laboratory, Water Quality Laboratory, Mechanical Testing Laboratory, Smart and Future Cities Laboratory for Sustainable Urban Solutions, Egypt Center of Excellence for Solid Waste Management, Materials Properties, Testing and Quality Control Laboratory, Metal Forming Laboratory, Concrete Research Laboratory, Luban Workshop, Automotive Engines Laboratory, Electrical Power Engineering Laboratory, Robotics and Control Laboratory, High Voltage Laboratory, and Acoustics Laboratory.

During her visit to the Faculty of Science, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel was accompanied by Prof. Amal Morsi, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, along with several faculty members and directors of the faculty’s research centers and laboratories.

The tour included several specialized laboratories and research centers, notably:

The Central Laboratory, comprising the Chromatography Unit, Atomic Absorption Unit, Microbiology Unit, and Water Analysis Unit.

The Department of Physics Laboratories, including the Raman Spectroscopy Laboratory, X-ray Unit, Nuclear Radiation Measurement Research Laboratory, Optics and Spectroscopy Laboratory, Materials Physics and Solar Cells Laboratory, Semiconductor Technology Research Laboratory, and Nuclear and Environmental Physics Laboratories.

The Department of Chemistry Laboratories, including the Inorganic Chemistry Research Laboratory, Computational Quantum Chemistry Applications Laboratory, Chemistry and Biochemical Measurements Laboratory and its Applications in Medicine and Industry, Physical Chemistry Research Laboratory, and Inorganic Chemistry Research Laboratory.

The tour also covered the Lecture Halls and Computer Laboratories Complex and the Optical Measurements Laboratory, including the Ultrafast Dynamic Spectroscopy Laboratory and Laser Laboratory.

The visit aimed to follow up on previously submitted requests and requirements for upgrading laboratories, research centers, and units, assess their operational readiness, and discuss development priorities with laboratory officials. It also focused on identifying ways to enhance research infrastructure efficiency in support of the university’s strategic research plan.

Prof. Amany Osama Kamel emphasized that upgrading research laboratories is a key pillar in advancing the university’s scientific research system. She stressed the importance of providing an integrated research environment that enables researchers to conduct competitive studies and publish their findings in leading international scientific journals ranked in the first quartile (Q1), thereby strengthening the university’s position in international rankings.

She also called for greater cooperation and integration among research laboratories across the university’s faculties to ensure optimal utilization of available resources and support multidisciplinary research projects. In this context, she highlighted the important role played by certain laboratories in community service and environmental development through providing scientific and practical solutions to development challenges.

Furthermore, the Vice President emphasized the importance of directing scientific research toward serving industry and supporting national priorities. She urged academic departments to evaluate research projects with practical and industrial applications, in line with Egypt’s efforts to maximize the benefits of scientific research outcomes and align them with development needs.

Expressing her appreciation for the scientific and research capabilities of the Egypt Center of Excellence for Solid Waste Management, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel praised its research and practical applications that contribute to supporting the circular economy and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. She stressed the importance of making the most of the center’s expertise and research resources.

She further directed the relevant departments to follow up on preparing a comprehensive and updated inventory of equipment and devices available in each laboratory. The inventory should include the technical condition of each device, the availability of maintenance contracts, and equipment required in the future, helping establish a clear laboratory development plan based on actual priorities.

Concluding her tour, Prof. Amani Osama Kamel affirmed that investing in the development of research laboratories is an investment in the university’s future. She emphasized the need to prioritize the actual requirements of laboratories to enhance the efficiency of education and research and prepare Ain Shams University to join the ranks of the world’s Tier 1 universities.
