The Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs receives the Faculty of Law team representing the university in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Competition in Vienna

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, Vice President of Ain Shams University, the Faculty of Law student team is participating in the thirty-third edition of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition, scheduled to be held from March 27 to April 2, 2026 in Vienna, Republic of Austria.

         
   
         

Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs, received yesterday morning the team representing the university in the competition, which is one of the most prominent international competitions specializing in the field of international commercial arbitration. It brings together hundreds of universities from around the world annually and aims to develop the skills of law students in the areas of legal research, drafting legal memoranda, and oral advocacy in English, in addition to deepening their understanding of the rules of international trade and the mechanisms for settling disputes through arbitration.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Yassin El-Shazly, Dean of the Faculty of Law; Dr. Ahmed Khalifa, Director of the University's International Collaboration Office; and Dr. Basma El-Sen, Deputy Director of the International Collaboration Office.

During the meeting, Prof. Rami Maher Ghali praised the importance of participating in such prestigious international competitions, emphasizing that they represent a distinguished educational experience combining theoretical study with practical application. He added that they contribute to honing students’ legal skills and enhancing their understanding of international law and international commercial arbitration, which positively impacts the development of legal professionals capable of competing in international forums.

         
   
         

For his part, Prof. Yassin El-Shazly emphasized that students who choose this path do so out of passion and a desire to develop their academic and practical skills. He noted that participation in these competitions requires significant effort and voluntary commitment from students, given the opportunities they provide to develop legal research, advocacy, and teamwork skills, as well as to enhance their proficiency In legal English.

Dr. Ahmed Khalifa also praised the role of these international academic activities in introducing students to global legal systems, broadening their professional horizons, and better preparing them for the demands of the international legal job market.

The Faculty of Law team participating in the competition includes students: Youssef Mahmoud Samir Taha, Hedaya Omar Makram Mohamed Mahmoud Awad, Malak Ahmed Mahmoud Mawafi, Nancy Tamer Mohamed Amr Salah El-Din, and Laila Hesham Helmy Mohamed Allam.

The team Is coached by Abdel Rahman Wessam El-Din El-Sayed Ahmed El-Baradei, Hagar Ali Ibrahim Ali Ali, Ahmed Abdel-Gawad Mosaad Abdel-Galil Abdel-Gawad Hamida, and Youssef Abdel Rahman Safwat El-Husseini. All are graduates of the Faculty of Law and have previously participated in several international moot court competitions, which allows them to share their practical experience with the participating students and prepare them exceptionally well for the competition.

The team is supervised by Dr. Basma Adel El-Sen, Lecturer of Public International Law and Deputy Director of the International Collaboration Office at the university.

This initiative reflects Ain Shams University’s commitment to supporting its students’ participation in prestigious international competitions, contributing to the development of a generation of legal professionals capable of engaging with contemporary legal issues at both the regional and international levels.
